Some Vintage Meguiar's Products from my Collection (Lots of pictures)

Meguiar vs Meguiar'S'...I'll d#$%'d!

The label on the Black Sheep bottles was/is the same as the decal I had on my toolbox for years. Never did I realize that there was no 's'.

I got the decal at an auto/hot rod show in San Diego in '76 (or there abouts). Never used the THAT/THOSE products. But did the 'real Meguiar's.

Mike, I see 1-16-C is a prewax cleaner. I was just misinformed, I though that it was a cleaner-wax. Thank you for the response.

As far as I know, Meguiar's didn't introduce a wax for cars till 1951, that would be the MGH16, until that time, if you wanted to wax your car you would use something like Blue Coral or Simonize.

I think I explain the reason behind this somewhere in this thread or on this forum. Do a search for M08 Maximum Mold Release Wax which came out in 1950 for making Fiberglas products. M16 came out a year later, after the passing of Frank Meguiar Jr.

My thread didnt recieve any attention so I figured Id post them here.

I was digging around in a cabinent in the garage yesterday and I found these two products. Any idea how old the silver polish is? I could not find a date.

I gave both a good shake and they are still liquid! I wonder if they still work?

Giving this thread a bump since I'm sure I'm not the only one that had not seen it before. If you like "the history of things," this is a great thread and thanks to Mike for taking the time to put it together.

I vaguely remember quite a few of the bottles shown, from the 70's-80's. The amount of product information and availability now is astounding compared to back then.

I wonder when washing your car at home became common practice? Some of the labels of earlier products seem to imply there was no such concept. Probably has to do with when running water to middle class homes was commonplace. 1930's maybe? Maybe even later.

I've seen a lot of antique magazine ads for cars and car waxes that had some type of car washing picture included and these were from the 1950's...

Thanks for posting these Mike, I love looking at old product packaging. It's so cool to see how marketing was done years ago
 
Someone like myself can really appreciate a collection like this. I'm only 26 and enjoy detailing with a passion, and to see the history of the products just really makes me appreciate how far products have came along before my time.

Here's some from my collection... the product inside the bottles with the blue racing stripe is blue, but probably not as bright as it was in the 1960's

I remember seeing a couple of those Blue Stripe bottles in Barry Meguiars display case, when he gave us a tour of his office, during the 10yr. MOL anniversary party:)

I have what I imagine is a pretty rare Mirror Glaze Paperweight.. I was told by the person I acquired it from, that it had been in his fathers collection, tucked away in the box since the 1960's

He said it was given to his father during his time in the automotive and private aircraft industry.

50+ yrs. old in mint condition. Rarely out of this box. I think it's pretty neat:)
