Hi guys,

I'm getting a new Japanese car soon , and it's white in color.

I'd like to ask for some tips from you guys as how to go about this

My initial plan is : wash , claybar , surface prep , paint sealant and finish it off with carnauba wax

If i were to find any swirls on this new car , what products should i use to remove the light swirls , with hand as i don't have a buffer

Cheers guys :dblthumb2:

Since this is your first post...

Welcome to Autogeek Online! :welcome:

Let's hope your brand new car doesn't come with DISO

DISO - Dealer Installed Swirl Option

What kind of car are you getting?

Swirls can be remove by hand but it's a lot of work, for the cost of a polisher and a few pads and chemicals you can do the job faster and better than working by hand, much better.

Cheers for the welcome ! great forum here :)

I'm not sure if the car will come with DISO , but i've never heard of anyone talking about them.

I'll be getting a white Mitsubishi Evolution X , their famous for bad paint so i wanna make sure my first step to protecting is done perfectly :)

I could get my hands on a polisher as my mate has one.

What i've got on mind now would be:

Wash (duragloss 901) > Dry > clay > polish > duragloss 601 + duragloss 105 > wolfgang DGPS

As for the polish part , i've no idea what to use yet

What kind of polisher does your buddy have? Take a look at the Menzerna, Wolfgang, and Meguiars polishes.

Be sure to tell the dealer not to prep it.

I'm not sure what polisher my friend has , is it important ? i only know that different color pads give different cut/finishing.

i think the dealer will not prep it unless i've op-ed for the paint protection which is a huge rip-off

They WILL wash it and that is where the trouble starts, tell them not to touch it.

Okays , that i will notify them as soon as possible !

i've gotta check with him what type is it then

btw , anyone tried using duragloss 601 and 105 then top it off with a carnauba wax ?

I know it sounds like a silly question, but is it being shipped from Japan...? I had a Scion xB that was actually shipped from Japan, I told the dealer NOT to prep it, and when I took delivery, the paint was SO contaminated with fallout and rail dust, it was RIDICULOUS. A Finish Kare decon remedied all that... just something to keep in mind.

yeah , i think it'll be shipped from Japan as they don't have a manufacturing assembly here, hope it isn't as bad as your scion

here's the plan that i thought of :

- Wheels prep with P21S Wheel Gel and cleaned up with brushes
- Tires with P21S Total Autowash and washed down
- Wheel wells spray with P21S Total Autowash and washed down
- Wash down with duragloss 901 and rinsed
- Clay with meguiars OTC claybar and rinsed
- Polish with SSR2 and SSR1
- Apply Duragloss 601 and Duragloss 105
- Finish off with Collinite 476s , 2 layers

what do you guys think ? do i need a type of paint cleaner or some sort before applying duragloss 601/105 ?

Your process looks great. SSR2 and SSR1 are paint cleaners. You don't need to use anything else to prepare the paint for DG 601 and 105. You may want to only apply one coat of 476s, though. Some people experience pseudo-holograms with two coats of 476s. Besides, I really doubt an additional coat of 476 will add anything much, whether in durability or looks. The 601/105 + 476 is a pretty powerful combination. Have fun!

I'm in the same boat as you (pick up my new car tomorrow). When I ordered it, I made the dealer promise me not to wash it. They will be removing the adhesive, and that is it. I've blocked off my work day tomorrow so I can spend the day prepping her. Hope yours arrives in great condition. I'm still nervous about a hack at the dealer showing initiative and touching my car.

I'm still nervous about a hack at the dealer showing initiative and touching my car.

And you have ever right to be nervous because of all the Horror Stories posted to our forum. I have a good friend that purchased a brand new black Camaro and when she arrived at the dealership the car was still on the car hauler with the protective plastic wrap on the panels. She let them help her remove the plastic and that was it.

Get their early, take control of the situation, save yourself a heartache.

Print this thread out and show the top manager you're serious about not letting anyone touch your car.

When some hack detailer inflicts swirls into paint, this REMOVES paint.

When you remove the swirls, the removal process means REMOVING some paint.

There's no good reason anyone should have to pay top dollar for a brand new car only to have some of the precious and thin factory paint removed for no good reason.

:)

alright , i'll stick to the process :D

very keen on seeing how it'll turn out , will try this on my brother's 10 year old mirage first , hope i can bring it back to shine

i'd like to ask you guys one more question, i'll be getting a set of volk racing wheels , which are anodized wheels and i'm thinking of using a wheel sealant for it

i'm looking at poorboy's wheel sealant , will that be fine or it's not good for anodized wheels ?

Anodized Coatings are incredibly tough by themselves just don't use any acid based cleaners on them as you can stain them and undoing the damage means removing the anodizing and re-polishing the wheel and the re-anodizing, more time, work and expense then most people are willing to invest.

Sealing with a wheel sealant will provide a coating of protection and make washing off brake dust easier.
