Hello, I am a new recent member to Auto Geek Online but have been detailing for about eight months now and am pretty active on bimmerforums.com

I am curious about an adapter I recently bought for my FLEX XC 3401 VRG polisher.

To start things off, when I made my first order in October of 2009 when I ordered my FLEX XC 3401 VRG I also bought a flexible backing plate for it, because, at that time, Autogeek advertised that it would work with the FLEX XC 3401 VRG and when I received it and tried to attach it I knew that it did not look right. So I contacted Autogeek customer service and asked them about it and they were very courteous and informed me that it had been advertised wrong and that it would indeed not work with they FLEX XC 3401 VRG and I was refunded the price of the backing plate.

Fast forward to the beginning of April 2010 when I made another purchase that included the Diamondite Glasswork System Kit for Machine Application. The kit comes with an adapter for a power drill but will work with the 5/8"x11 dual action polisher adapter that costs $4.99. On the Autogeek page for the DA adapter it says that it can be used with "the Meguiars Dual Action Polisher G110, Porter Cable 7424XP, and the FLEX XC 3401 VRG Orbital Polisher." I used the adapter once with my FLEX and I thought it felt a little unsafe and it looked like it was not made to 'adapt' with the FLEX; the inside of the head is completely exposed. It is also hard to install; I had to use to small crescent wrenches to tighten it down. Now, this adapter attaches the same way as the flexible backing plate I metioned earlier. The only reason I was able to use the DA adapter was because there was about an two inches where I could slide two wrenches to tighten it to the FLEX.

My question is, am I using the DA adapter the correct way and has anyone else used one on a FLEX XC 3401 VRG before and what are your thoughts on this? I have attached pictures below of the DA adapter and backing plate on the FLEX.

Feed back please

That is NOT made to be used with the Flex. Your only real option is the factory backing plate and the Edge adapter.

...
I like Autogeek, I think they sell great products and have great customer service, but they need to talk to the person that lists the items on their website. They have no idea what is compatible with what.

Anyone can look right here and see where it says that it will work with the FLEX before it gets changed.
D.A Adapter 5/8" X 11

If no one from AutoGeek sees this I will contact customer service tomorrow.

It does indeed appear to be designed for "other" orbitals and wording could have come incorrectly from manufacturer and copied without catching it. Do you have a drill or other orbital you can use ??

All I have is a FLEX XC 3401 VRG. And, not to sound like a prick, but I did not exactly buy this kit to use with a cordless drill. That is why I bought the adapter.

I did send a message to customer service and am awaiting a reply.

These kinds of problems really make me short on nerve sometimes...

Autogeek has a no hassle guarantee, I'd suggest PMing Dwayne, Matt, Meghan or Jason and you'll be repaired. Its an error, and no fun, but the commitment to repair is here.

Customer service fowarded my email to Dwayne and he emailed me back and left me a voicemail letting me know that it was a mistake on the Autogeek website that had been overlooked and that the adapter would indeed not work with the FLEX XC 3401 VRG. So he refunded my money for the adapter.

The question now is, what is the cheapest way for me to use four inch pads like the one in the Diamondite kit. I know the EDGE adapter for the FLEX can not take four inch pads. I guess I could use a cordless drill when working on the windows, but, if I wanted to use four inch pads on the paint, would I need to get another DA or rotary?

Well a PC doesn't really cost that much and you may be able to find one on ebay for cheap.

actually their is an adapter designed for Flex that will accept 4inch pads, its the Edge Adapter. Aint cheap, but limited stock and might suggest considering it just in case you want it later.

Use the 4 inch spot pads like those from the Edge/Cyclo.

Edge FLEX XC 3401 Conversion Adapter, Edge Pads adapter for FLEX Orbital Buffer, 3M Edge 2000 Adapter

Cyclo Double Precision pads are double-sided foam buffing pads for the Cyclo polisher.

Exactly and it works great

Which 4 inch pads would you recommend to go with the adapter? I'd be detailing hubby's Harley and my Vstar.

Cyclo's ...see the link to them right above your last post. They use the same size adapter so pads just snap into the Flex/3M adapter too.
