Newbie question. Should I wash my vehicles with something other than a good car wash concentrate prior to clay bar/DG 501/601/105? Thanks for your feedback!

Has it been waxed before? You probably won't have to use a different wash, but I always like to add a little more soap before I polish.

Yes, I have been using Klassee twins. I read on another forum to use Dawn dishwashing detergent only before waxing to remove old wax/sealant.

Klasse AIO will remove any wax/sealants from your paint. So you could just wash, lay down K AIO and go from there :)

Actually just ran out of AIO and going to give DG 501/601/105 a try. I've read this is a good combo on this forum.

Ahh.

Well AFAIK, 501 has some AIO like properties to it. (I have it myself). But if you plan to use 601 (PBA right?) then I guess a dawn wash would be best.

I have not been using a soap specific for vehicle paints so I was going to include some DG concentrate in my order. What soap do you use when not waxing if you don't mind me asking?

The only time I vary soaps (other than trying new soaps ;)) is when I dawn wash to strip my LSP to re-apply.

DG #901 is REALLY popular, if you're gonna buy a stack of DG stuff you might as well put that in the basket too. It should also help keep your DG501/105 lasting longer, it's made to work with their sealants naturally.

What is the fascination with using Dawn to wash cars? Isn't there other car wash soaps that actually do a proper job stripping LSP's that doesn't come from the kitchen sink? When I see people using Dawn it makes me cringe as it wasn't made for cars.

Is it a cost thing associated with the use of Dawn? I can only imagine what kind of chemicals that are in it that wouldn't be good for a car.

Don

there are soaps that used in larger concentrations will strip LSP's, but Dawn can be found everywhere. It's pH isn't too far off the scale to be used on a vehicle now and then. Settle down.

Last year when my car got backed into and had to go to the body shop I noticed that the weather stripping seemed dry afterwards. It looked drier than it ever had and the LSP was stripped off. I don't know what they washed the car in but it was some nasty stuff. I even took the car there clean hoping they wouldn't wash it.
