I recently bought a 08 black silverado from a dealer and every were in the paint you see swirls. More when it is out in the sun. I taped of a section of the fender and applied meguires polish and wax which helped a little but in the sun you can still see the swirls. Is there any thing I can do to get rid of them by hand with out a buffer? If not what would you recommend I buy?

It can be done by hand but its gonna take a lot of elbow grease.

Just about anything done by machine polishing can be done by hand. BUT you might not live long enough to finish a Silverado

It's a decent starter kit but you will need more orange and white pads along with more MF towels. At a minimum add three each of the two pads and four more towels.

Are you into detailing? As others say a buffer is needed or you will be there for ever.if you do not have the experience or the equipment it might be better to hire a detailer to do it.but detailing is fun. So, if you want to keep it mint buying and learning detailing is very rewarding. Just let the auto geek forum know, and with patience you will do it right.

I have always washed and waxed my own cars but never used a buffer. I have been reading alot and watching videos. I would rather learn and do it my self. So the kit I mentioned with the addition to the pads would work?

So do you want to buy a D.A. or not?

I would get 105/205 instead of WG and maybe some 85RD if your paint is soft.

Yes. Would the Porter Cable 7424XP be a good choice for removing these swirls?

I've never been a car person until I bought a brand new one myself. The first time I washed it there were swirls all over the place. I started off by hiring a detailer but that was getting expensive and the results were not what I was looking for. Luckily, I found this site and mustered up the courage to buy the PC 7424XP, some LC pads, Meg's UC, Meg's 105, and some 85rd. Now my paint finish is what it should be and the tools that I mentioned above were all that were needed. Well, I forgot to mention the XMT Pad Conditioner. Good luck.

Meg's UC and 105 are really close to the same thing. Like I said earlier I would buy some Meg's 105 and 205 along with Menzerna 85RD. For an LSP you can get Menzerna Power Lock.

For pads I would go with 5.5" Flat pads. For a six pack buy 2 orange 2 white and of the black and blue. For 12 pads I would buy 4 orange, 3 white and black and 2 blue.

Anything else you need help with?

How long does a pad last and when will I know when to use another one?
