The gauge will read anything else ( well excepting plastic!) excepting my damn hood..

Anyone know why?

I made a little video so everybody can see the problem.

Have fun!

That makes absolutely no sense. Are you sure your hood is painted?

It's a JDM car, everything is suppose to be made out of aluminium. At first, I thought it was made of fiberglass but under the hood, it clearly have a metal feeling so it can't be fiberglass.

It would appear that it's an aluminum hood. Will a magnet stick to it?

Test your hood with a Magnet it may have a layer of Composite material.

Probably a Aluminium hood and your unit will only read metal products , Look into it, I have been doing some research on this lately and some appear, that even with the same # but read different metals! So I have been told lately, been looking on E-Bay!!:buffing::hotrod2:

Some gauges read ferrous vs. non-ferrous. They will read steel but not aluminium. Found that out on my 560SL - aluminium hood and deck

I really thought this one was reading aluminium because this is what some peoples said on this forum regarding this PTG.

Also, I always thought/knew that my car was made in 100% aluminium.. maybe it's not lol..

If your car was 100% aluminum you would have paid a whole lot more for it. While it's technically a cheap metal, when it's used in automotive applications it suddenly gets expensive. :nomore:

MSRP for this car was 90k

Probably need to spend more for a better PTG that can read metal and none metal.

I have my eye on one, but its going to take a long time to save up the $2,500 for it. Not high on the list, for obvious reasons.

I didn't see the video, but I know that a lot of higher end cars will have aluminum hoods, doors, and trunk lids. Not many will have EVERYTHING aluminum unless it is a jaguar XJ (seems to be one of thier trademarks). My last car (Infiniti G35 Coupe) was aluminum doors and hood. My current car (911TT) I don't believe anything is aluminum and it still only weighs 3400 lbs with a full AWD system in it :)

Just found a defalsko Combo used :). Looking forward to try it!

Most PTG will read on metal bodied, or non metal bodied. Doesn't matter if the car is aluminum or steel.
