I decided to polish my 2004 Highlander which had been neglected for a year (White paint). So after getting my meguiars v2 I decided to give it a go on the hood. Here is the process I used :

1)Wash/dry with ABSORBER
2)Clay hood panel entirely
3) OK so heres where the fun stuff begins, I did as per mike's instruction a little pass of UC on a spot to see the results.... But didn't like what I was getting... swirl marks were still there so I decided to go a bit aggressive

I went with 3M Perfect it II rubbing compound on another test spot and bingooo it was perfect no marring etc and looked wayyy better.

So I did the whole panel on 3M perfect it II rubbing compound

Followed by megs swirl x remover , then Klasse AIO and topped it with Kollinite 485 and the hood looks beautiful.

Now the question is, did I go overboard on the hood any suggestions, comments appreciated or can I continue with that method??:buffing:

If you are happy with the results, then no. However, Toyota paint (as well as the notorious Honda paint) are relatively thin , so use that method sparingly. I have a 2009 Rav4 that I plan on attacking when the Maryland weather decides to cooperate.

Awesome longdx, I will keep in mind that toyota's paint is relatively thin!! :)

If that system's working for the hood it should work for the rest of the car and if it's making you happy then that's what we're all about.

Like mentioned by longdx, in general clear coat paints are thin, see this thread...

Is this burn through and is it repairable

So use the least aggressive product to get the job done...
