I knew it would happen sooner or later, but it still sucks

I'm not a happy camper. I bought my truck in February and have been using alot of the information and products I learned about here at AutoGeek to keep it looking good. I gave it a good washing today. That's how I found it. My first ding. It's one of those small dents/chipped paint you get if someone opens their car door into it in a parking lot. It's not big, and its not very obvious. But I know it's there and it's ticking me off.

Why are people so darn careless? Why don't they give a crap if they damage other people's property? I try to park away from other vehicles, and I'm uber cautious when I open my door. I will park in a more remote spot and walk further if I can just to keep this from happening, but that's not always possible. I'm hoping my frustration wears off soon. Sorry for the venting.

i do the same but peoples door's just seem to find mine,there's 3 of those little dings. i also have an f150 and there's a body line that i believe has a target on it.

That is exactly why I don't drive new vehicles anymore. I got tired of trying to keep a nice vehicle nice. Used to get a new vehicle every two years or so and after my last one, just said that it was enough. No more of that for me. I can still make my old stuff look good and I will be happy with that.

They probably do. They see that a nice car is parked away from everyone else's so they know what you're doing. However, a lot of these people are low-life trash and so they figure because you can afford something nice and they can't they'll get even by messing with your stuff. It might sound paranoid on my part but I really believe that sort of stuff happens.

Agreed! That is really annoying to come back and find someone parked next to you when there are no other cars near u.

I'd run outside and take a picture of the front of my car and chin spoiler but it would simply depress me.

Long story short, last week (on my vacation no less) I got stuck in traffic behind a flatbed landscaping truck. Fair dip in the roadway going about 50, all sorts of little pebbles come flying from underneath this truck along with one very large clump of grass/mud. Couldn't swerve out of the way because I was blocked in.

I've got cracked paint on my chin spoiler and no less than 20 little chips all over the bumper/hood/fenders.

Angry does not describe my feelings.

Some times it's an accident, usually it's carelessness, but no matter, it's still infuriating. Don't forget the idiots who can't manuever a shopping cart and scratch the whole side, or leave them in the lot instead of the corral. A discount no frills store remedies this by making you put a quarter in to get a cart. Then when you put the cart back where it belongs, it gives you the quarter back. Maybe they ought to do this at more stores. People are just not as considerate today as they used to be.

Reminds of a joke from a long time ago. A guy backs into a car in a parking lot. Lots of people see it happen. He gets out of his car and writes a note and sticks it under the wiper. The note read: "I hit your car. Lots of people saw me do it. They think I am writing my name and phone number down. They are WRONG." Sad part is that it's probably true.

It does kind of take all the fun out of trying to have something nice when there are so many human beings around you that just don't care and thus open their door into your car's panels, or leave their shopping cart where it will roll into your car while you're in a store...

Doesn't really seem to help to park in the far end of the parking lot either, in fact it might even attract this type of problem...

I can still make my old stuff look good and I will be happy with that.

I assume paintless dent removal only works with dings without chipped paint. In my case, the ding is right on the ridge on a door panel, and the paint is chipped. The ding is really quite small, but the chipped paint hurts. So paintless dent removal probably won't work in this case, but just out of curiousity, how much does it run?

My Maxima was three days old when I parked it in the back of the store lot. The whole lot was completely empty. When I came out of the store, a black SUV was parked in the back of the lot next to me even though the whole lot was empty. They had parked only a foot away from my car door and the new ding was there!!! People do this ON PURPOSE! I am convinced of that!

I completely agree. It makes it very difficult not to return the favor to their vehicle. I also think they just don't care about anyone's property but their own, selfish sob's!!!

Not the only reason but a very strong reason I sold my classic 1974 Datsun 260Z was after someone backed into the virgin body and put a dent about the size of my fist in the front, middle of the hood.

A few days before Christmas, an un-insured driver backed their car into the front of the hood and put a small dent in it.

After getting the above dent in the hood instead of fixing the dent I sold the car to a fellow car enthusiast looking for a rust-free 260Z to cherry out and went back to a vehicle that I no longer have to worry about anyone ever denting the hood, the body panels or the doors...

Personal preference and that's what America has historically been about... you want a new car go for it... been there, done that once and remember the first rock chip and the sinking filling after I heard the ting... and then pulled over and located it on the front of the hood.

It's usually about 100-175 a panel. Though, you may want to check it out first as I thought I was in that position as well. A quick hit with my Griots and M105 showed I may still have luck. Got the dent removed then followed that with a quick wet sanding and polish..good as new. Hopefully thats your case, and the paint isn't actually cracked off.
