Best way to fix this and other general ?'s

Wasn't sure if this was the right area of the forum to post this so sorry if it needs moving.

I have a brand new 2010 Infiniti G37 (which I love) in what's called slate blue. It's a bluish graphite color which looks more dark blue in the daytime but looks like a pewter color at night. Yesterday, I gave her a good bath and a quick detail spray as I dried her. Wife soon sent me to the grocery store and I picked up a few bugs on the way home. So I grabbed my PB wash & gloss that I received in my PB kit from AG and sprayed it on the windshield and front bumper and wiped the bugs away.
Now I didn't realize it at the time but when I went out to the car today, I noticed some very evident swirl scratches right where the roof meets the top of the windshield. I must have over-wiped my microfiber cloth onto the paint and probably debris on the cloth caused the scratches. I know it wasn't from the wash/dry earlier in the day because I would have noticed them when I dried the car.
Take a look at the photo and see what you think. What's the best way to take care of this small area? Do I need to pull out the PC just for this? If so, I have orange, white and black pads. Also what polish should I use? At my immediate disposal I have PB SSR1 and SSR2.5 as well as Klasse AIO. Is there something else I should purchase for my paint/color?
Also, what is the characteristic of Infiniti paint? Is it ultra soft and tends to scratch easily like this?
Uggh, I can't believe I did this to my brand new baby.

You could probably remove these light scratches by hand using something like ScratchX with a clean, soft foam applicator pad. ScratchX is a SMAT product and works well for abrading paint to remove defects without leaving scratches behind at the same time.

Machines always leave a better finish on a clear coat than your hand... you're choice, if it were me I'd probably buzz it down with the PC and a 4" Spot Repair Pad.

Out of those three, I would work by machine, not hand and try the SSR1 first, if that don't work you can always try the SSR2

I make all my paint hardness or softness evaluations by working on the paint, that's the best way. Of course that only really works or helps if you've previously buffed on thousands of different paint systems and to some level locked into your brain how they reacted when you worked on them.

Is it possible that they are not scratches, and are just streaks? Try to wipe them away with a clean MF towel and QD.

Otherwise, getting out the PC would probably be the best way to fix it. Hopefully SSR 1 on a White Pad can take care of them, if not, step it up as necessary. Tape off the area to be polished first, of course. :xyxthumbs:

I have something called Quixx. Will that work and is it safe to use?

One of everything, huh? My wife already thinks I'm nutso.

I thought that too. When I saw the area, I grabbed my QD and a clean towel and quickly found out they are not streaks.

Washing and drying are major sources of marring. I'm not arguing when you say it was the QD that did it, but different lighting can reaveal different things. Never hurts to review your wash technique and materials.

You can try it... I have not used it personally so I don't know if it works or not...

From experience, most hand applied scratch removers either don't work or instill scratches at the same time.

I've had good luck with ScratchX Since the product was introduced in all its variations... I've probably demoed it to remove scratches in front of more people than anyone else on earth.

Note clear coats are scratch sensitive, that is they scratch easily, even if you have the best product in the world you still need to use good or even expert technique...


When in doubt... practice on the wife's car...
