Best Waxes & Sealants? (updated)

I think Mothers pure carnuba paste should be on the list! Its a pretty good pure Carnuba for the price! Think the $10-$15 dollar range at local auto stores. I used it a few years ago and I remember the smell reminded me of Bazooka bubble gum!

Actually, I don't think you added it to the list.

It's been added to my list here on my computer and will show up the next time I publish an updated list. I do not have the privileges to edit articles here on AutoGeek.

I think you're on the right track with this thread, but what you have now is little more than a list of popular waxes categorized by price. For someone new to detailing or for an experienced detailer looking for a new product to try, there are just too many options here without enough explanation as to why one might be a better choice than another. If price is the only consideration, then I guess this would do the trick. However, I think people will get more out of this if you break it down into some different categories. You might consider some lists like: "Most Durable Winter Waxes", "Ease of Application", "WOWO", "WOWA", "Highest Shine", "Deepest Gloss", "Best for Dark Colors", "Best for Light Colors", etc. Listing them by purpose will help guide people to a product that does what they are trying to achieve.

Hope this helps and keep up the good work. :xyxthumbs:
You've done some great work compiling a list of waxes and sealants at price points. You can add One Grand Blitz wax in the $20-30 range.

I also agree that it would be helpful to have a table that summarizes the qualities of each LSP. You may only need to collate comments from people experienced with each product. For instance, expected durability in months based on environment (desert, winter, rain, humidity), ease of use (WOWO, WOWA, hazing time, ease of removal), Visual appearance (wet look, nuba-like glow, candy apple shine, defined mirror-like reflections, etc.), Best for specific vehicle colors, etc.

Glad that you are bird dogging this process.

Eh, OGBW stained trim. I wasn't impressed with that, and I've got a nearly full tin of it to show it.

Nice list!! :D

btw I kinda have to choose between Duragloss aquawax and optimum car wax!

Please can anyone advise?(I know that they fall in a different price bracket, but if OCW is like really awesome compared to DGAW, then I 'll go for optimum!)

Thanks

Route 66 Hot Rod Wet Wax is in the 15-20 dollar range and is a good product IMO.

Are you looking for durability? If so OCW wins, but if durability is not the issue my vote goes to Aqua Wax. :xyxthumbs:

I'm a big fan of Chemical Guys M-Seal in the $15-$20 range. VERY easy to work with and has awesome durability.

Yes, it can stain trim like many other products. If you use OGBW, it's best to dress your trim and rubber before wax application. I used Megs 40 and OGERV with success. On my 99 and 00 5-series with the black plastic trim, I used OG plastic polish at times to remove my mistakes.

With a little care, it remains a top notch traditional carnauba paste wax with reasonable durability. I liked it better than Megs Hi-Tech liquid wax that I used before it.

Yea! durability can be an extra plus point!

But since I keep waxing my car all the time I kinda need a spray wax durable for at least a week while producing super high loss at the same time!

Thanks! :D

By contrast, I just have to say that One Grand's Blitz Wax is one of the worst LSP's that I have ever used. Not only does it stain trim like crazy, but it is more of a dust magnet than any other LSP I have used. Add to that my opinion that it also wasn't very good in the looks department, and it is a dead bang loser in my book.

There aren't very many detailing products in existence that I feel so negatively towards.

I remember when OGBW was "all the rage" so I bought a tin. Never have I been so disappointed with an LSP.

YMMV. ;)

Hey Ron,
Isn't it funny how people's experiences differ. I still remember being so happy with the golden aura outlining the top of the car when the sun glinted off my brand new '00 5-series. I miss that car!

You have much more experience with different waxes and sealants than me. I liked and used OGBW for years but have been experimenting with sealants and hybrids. I would say that my cars with WG DGPS stay cleaner longer than when I used OGBW.

Yes indeed Kurt. Actually the way so many people in this hobby have such differing experiences/opinions is one of the things that makes this hobby and the detailing forums so interesting!

WG DGPS is one (of the few) sealant(s) that I have not tried. I've heard lots of good things about it..

BTW, it's Rob, not Ron! ;)

Sorry Rob, b and n are next to each other on the keyboard. I should have checked closer.

Z1 doesn't exist anymore.

FWIW I've used Z2/Z5 without ZFX *OR* ZAIO. Works just fine.
:dblthumb2:

It can be done. But you need to be careful and put a very thin coat. Otherwise it will take forever to try.

I see every other category represented by Mother's except this one ? <ore like $15 to $25 now though.

I don't see any Zymol waxes on the list...I use Zymol and I love it...so do my clients.
