I've been meaning to deswirl sections on my G that I never got to do yet, so I figured this morning was a good time to do it. Sections targeted were roof, upper frame door windows, and a section of the driver's door.

I've always been a menzerna guy, but I figured I would give the Megs twins a try. After trying out M105 both with an orange LC pad and a white LC pad, I wasn't too happy with the short working time. It was also rather dusty. Using the orange pad, it did remove the swirls I wanted it to, but it left quite a bit of marring. Using the white pad with M105, I didn't quite get the amount of correction I was looking for.

So I thought why not try M205 with the orange? Wow... I was impressed. The long working time of M205 was exactly what I was looking for. I could get 4 passes or more on each of my sections. And using an orange pad, it had enough cut to remove the defects I intended it to. I followed up with M205 again, but this time with an LC gray pad. I was very pleased with the results. It also wipes off very easy and is overall very forgiving. Does/Has anyone here use/tried the Orange pad + M205 combo??? Worked great for me! :props: Here's some pics.

Great test, I had really good results a few weeks ago with SIP on orange. If it works, go for it, I am sure the rest of us will give it a try too.
 
I've used 205 with orange flat pads with good results as well. Some sections I had to step up to 151(PRC) or 105, but on most of the car, 205 with orange did what I needed it to.

Thanks! That's great to hear! I'm glad I'm not the only one doing it this way. Dubbin, to your comment, it looked really good. No marring, and I'd say 90-95% defect removal. Why would using 205 on orange not be a high end polish job? Do you mean the process or the product used? Getting the defects removed is what counts, right?

Thanks for the props... but yes, I was just wondering if there other folks that do use this method, and it sounds like there are. My worry was that I was unnecessarily using too much cut with the orange pad. I might try it with the white and see if it corrects as nicely as the orange...would leave less marring too. I also now have a flex, and I find that I can use a less aggressive pad/polish combo to achieve an equal if not better correction in the same amount of time as a PC.
 
Do you have Menzerna PO85RD? Do you have more gray pads? If you like your current finish, wait until you see that combo!

Hi Richard... yes, in fact I do. I just got PO85RD with my Flex order. Tested it out the other day with a gray pad, and it's the best finish I've seen so far for any final polish step. I used that combo after white/Menz IP. Are you suggesting that perhaps I can eliminate those steps and just use PO85RD/gray as a one stepper? (for very light swirls that is)... I've never tried it alone yet. Perhaps I should have.

p.s. you still have your WGDGPS 3.0 16ozer for trade?

In my experience, PO85RD is used on black to really amp up the gloss level. I had very, very light wash induced markings that I was able to polish out using PO85RD and a gray pad before trading our Cobalt. I don't believe PO85RD has enough cut to be considered a one step polish, for that I would go with Menzerna PO203 or in your case M205. Keep in mind that this is only my opinion and your results may differ. I only asked if you had used that product because you have black paint, but you answered that.

Yes I still have a new bottle available. I love this stuff but 3 bottles is a bit much for me. I would rather someone else enjoy it instead of just sitting on my shelf collecting dust! I have 3/4 of a bottle left after about 5 applications so I doubt I will use them anytime soon, especially since the durability is very lengthy. :dblthumb2:

I agree... I have owned 5 (currently own 3) black cars and the vehicle I used PO85RD/gray combo on this weekend was our black civic. It has blue flakes in it, and it really made it pop. You mentioned "wash induced markings"... I always get worried about washing any of my cars esp after I just spend hours upon hours of buffing them. Even though I know how to properly wash so as not to induce swirls, over time, the swirls still manage to make their way onto my paint :( I guess that's why we do yearly light polishes, in this case PO85RD/gray pad... ;)

Got Audi back from body repair with lots of swirls. Based on comments, I tried 205 with orange followed by gray. Great results

Dougaross, glad the combo worked for you as well. You have pics of the finished piece?

Wow, if anything, I was able to help spread the word to fellow AG'ers with a method that works... That's what our community is all about :)
 
Ironically my local Walmart carries both 105 and 205.

I want to try m205 and I'm glad to see that you've had great luck with m205 + orange flat pad.

My question is: After m205+orange pad, if I were to follow up with CG Blacklight with a finishing pad, is m205 + gray pad necessary?
