Hello everyone I'm new to the forum and would like some advise. I recently purchased a pinnacle sizzling shine kit and I am having trouble with the hood streaking after removing the souveran wax.:buffing: My ride is a 2010 F-150 Lariat (candy apple red metallic). Any suggestions?

Hi Scott, welcome to the forum. Are you familiar with using quick detailers? If so, what you may want to try is a wipedown using the Crystal Mist after buffing off all the wax. Do this one panel at a time, lightly misting each panel, spread the product with one towel then buff off with another towel. Make sure you are doing all of this out of the sun and the body panels are not hot to the touch.

I did use porr boys quick detailer plus but still had streaking on the hood. Next time I'll pay more attention to outside temps and humidity.

You mean, how long do I wait before re-polishing?

When you re-polish is not determined by how many coats of wax you have applied, when you re-polish is determined by the finish quality of the paint after you wash, dry and then visually inspect the paint for swirls, scratches or water spot etchings.


At least that's assuming we're both talking about the normal use of the word re-polishing?

I was worried that I may waxing my truck too much. I usually put at least 2 coats of wax on it every weekend. Of course I haven't settled on my final wax of choice. Wet wax will be chemical guys butter wax or rt.66 hot rod wet wax. I have tried cg 50/50, cg formula 53, guruwax, pinnacle souveren, moonshine wax, dodo juice, natty wax, and surfcity garage carnuaba. My choice of polish/glaze is definately blackfire. There are very few light scratches on the hood of my truck and so far I have lightened them up but haven't been able to get rid of them. I wanted to make sure I wasn't over doing it on the wax.

I may be wrong since I've settled on products that I have learned to use well and stick with, but you may be mixing too many waxes on top of one another that is causing the wax under your top coat to haze from interaction with the new one. You may find that using a GD in place of a new coat of wax works just as well.

Quick Detailer. Well, yes and no, The experts may want to chime in, but every company has there on formula for there products and even if carnuba is the primary ingredient the additives may be different enough to cause an interaction. That is why some waxes are really hard like Collinte 476 and others or softer like Souveran.

A streak is in it's simplest form un-removed product residue.

It will disappear after the first wash and sometimes with time...

Wiping softly with a quick detailer should also remove the trace residues, some people recommend using a microfiber dampened with water and this will work too but the benefit to a quick detailer is that they will tend to offer more lubricity to the scratch-sensitive surface as compared to just water.

In the old days if you waxed too often there was the possibility of getting a wax build-up.

In the late 1990's, early part of 2000, the term layering came into fashion, instead of getting a wax build-up being a negative result, it's now a sought after result only it's called layering...

Of course I haven't settled on my final wax of choice.
Here's what I always say...

"Find something you like and use it often"

And the only way to find out what you like is to do what you're doing and that's testing out different products on your pride and joy.

If you're not machine polishing you will want to step up to machine polishing as clear coats are hard to work on and make look GREAT by hand. It can be done but it's a lot easier by machine.

Mike on the subject of buffers what would recommend for someone with only one good arm? That would be me, anything that would torque my arm would put me on my way to the moon(no need for saturan rockets). I can handle some torque but not much.
