Review: Poorboy’s World Trim Restorer

So what do you think about the bed rail caps in my previous post, Corey?

Have you ever tried Black WOW to offer up a comparison to PB's Trim Restorer? I'm just trying to decide if it would be worth spending the money on to give it a try.

Thanks. :xyxthumbs:

Nice review Corey. :xyxthumbs:

I've been wanting to buy a sample size of PB Trim Restorer for a while now to try on the bed rail caps of my truck, but I have not seen the sample size in stock at AG for month's it seems. I did not really want to purchase the large bottle not knowing if it would actually work on my bed rail caps or not.

Have you ever tried Black WOW, Corey?

I applied several coats of Black WOW to the bed rail caps on my truck and it made very little difference at all.

Here is a picture of my bed rail caps after applying Black WOW. They have more shine, but the white areas on the top had no improvement after application, which leads me to believe that maybe nothing applied to them would help improve their appearance at this point.

Thank you! I can't quite tell on the pics. Also I have not tried black wow. Hopefully somebody will chime in thats used both. I'm going to say if BW didn't do anything I'd probably wait on the sample sizes of TR. Particularly if you have nothing else to use it on. Then again, the TR certainly removed the white streaks I had. What material are the rail caps? Plastic? Can you replace them for cheap?

Awesome Jon!

I know the pictures were not the clearest (taken with my cell phone). The rail caps are indeed plastic. I'm not really looking to replace them at this time. Just trying to make them look a little better if possible. The rail caps are mostly covered with my tonneau cover so it's just a small portion along the top edge that are starting to look white. So they are not too noticeable.

Thanks.

I have not used my TR for a long time, but for me both BW and TR only seem to last a couple of weeks and/or some rain. Things like Klasse SG (which I've used) and I'm sure WOWA sealants should be good at preserving trim in good condition, but the only thing I've used that both restores and seems to have some longevity is the new Meguiar's stuff which I keep mangling the name of so I'll refrain.

Please try to name the Megs product as I am interested. I have Black Wow and I agree with your observations.

I have used PB TR and Black Wow. I like the look of PB better but they seem to last about the same time -- at least a couple months so more than a few washes that some seem to experience. Maybe my expectations are just lower on when it is time to re-apply. They both can run depending on the plastic.

I also use Mothers Back to Black which looks nice on some plastics but for reason not much effect on my Dakota side mirrors which is my most problematic trim. I do not like 303 on exterior plastics since it seems to leave a rainbow effect on black surfaces.

It's the Ultimate Protectant. It seems to get better after repeated applications. I've had it on my friend's faded cowling for a couple of months and it still looks ok, after doing a couple of applications a couple of weeks apart.

Thanks for the follow up.

That's an awesome and thorough review! Very great read! It seems that the Trim restorer is the winner!

Corey,
Another great review. I've been waiting for your comparison, so thank you!

I put the Ultima on my wishlist but the trim restorer looks pretty darn good. I'll be interested to see how it holds up for you.

Thank you Marc! I appreciate that. As far as restoring faded trim PB certainly wins in the inital looks dept.

My pleasure Kurt, thank you!
In my opinion for the majority of trim you encounter Ultima Trim and Tire Guard is going to be you're best option. For severely faded trim such as that bumper I like the PB so far. Like you said, lets see how it looks after the first few rains and a few weeks down the line.

Corey, Maybe it's the pics but I tend to like the PB and 303 sections better.

Wow, it looks like the PBTR is really holding up quite well. As others have also stated I like the PBTR on neglected trim best, but prefer Ultima on maintained trim.

You're definetly correct. For severely faded bumpers like this the Ultima isn't the right product. I used it to test the durability of the PB-TR next to it. When the others wear off the Ultima will still be there.

On trim that is not in terrible condition the Ultima would certainly be the product of choice for me.

The PB is a restorer
The Ultima is a sealant and protectant
The 303 falls in between

That's funny Tad, I wrote the above response before I saw yours.... I completely agree with you :D
