Review: Poorboy’s World Trim Restorer

So could you use PBTR to restore it, then top with UTTGP to protect and keep the restored look?

There is no real way to restore dried and faded plastic. There are remedies that coat the plastic and give temporary fixes but if you want long lasting results it is best to use a dye to actually restore the color. I've used 'Forever Black' topped up with a trim dressing with excellent and long lasting results.

Whew...bit of a relief. I had ordered UTTGP just before this threaded. At that the time I thought Damn, just wasted quite a bit of money. I've been pretty impressed with it, but looked forward to seeing the results here. Looks like it all worked out. The UTTGP even worked ok on the weird black trim between the door windows on my mother's PT Cruiser which was all destroyed and discolored. It can't fix that, but definitely makes it look better !! Good product, great review, thanks for the effort !!

Definitely no mistake ordering UTTGP! It is my favorite trim product by far. Try it on your rims as well. Lasts for ages:dblthumb2:

Corey, Have you ever tired a plastic polish on black plastic trim? I use One Grand's with great results on my 99 bimmer's black plastic trim. I also use it to remove wax or polish residue that I accidently get on the trim. It is also effective on yellowing and hazed headlights even if it only lasts a few weeks per application. OGPP's cleaning and blackening effect seems to last longer than dressings like Megs 40 and 303 that wash off in the rain.

I say this as I was going to pick up PBTR until I noticed that it washed off in the rain with your follow up post. I'm now thinking I should try UTTG after using the plastic polish to return the trim to black and perhaps washing the car to remove any oils.

Here's a shot after using OGPP. I'm sorry that I didn't take before and after pics.

Kurt, is that plastic polish like meg. Plastx?

I don't use Meg's Plastx. I use a product made by One Grand which is not available at AG, but yes it is a plastic polish. I don't know if Plastx would do the same, hence my question to Corey.

I have spoken to a number of people that swear by OGPP. It's gentle, works quickly and it is absolutely amazing on headlights and taillights too.

I don't feel comfortable writing it up as a product review since it's not available from AG.

That looks awesome Kurt!

I haven't used a plastic polish on black trim. I used some novum 3 step on my radio display in my car though.
Oh, ignore my PM Kurt. I didn't understand. So this stuff leaves behind a coating of some sort I guess. In that case I'm not sure the UTTG will work with it, remove it, or what. Please keep us updated:dblthumb2:

I only wish that I took before pics too. OGPP seems to be a chemical cleaner and the plastic has some type of oil or solvent left on it so I'm sure that something is left behind. The guys at OG told me that it was still gentle.

We don't have that much rain in SoCal so it's hard to remember how much rain affects it but the plastic looks clean after weekly washes. I was thinking that I could wash the car to remove the oils and then try the UTTG on the clean plastic.

I need to spend money on the leatherique before UTTG. Not quite made of money.

If you can just wash to remove the oils then the UTTG should work great over it. Maybe some P21S or like to wash it with even

Corey,

A very comprehensive test and the photos and video really lend a nice touch!

I have to say I was sort of shocked at the performance, or lack of in my opinion, of the Ultima Trim Guard product. While it did seem to change the appearance of the plastic it appeared to be sort of dull or lifeless from what I could tell.

Now, the exact opposite of what I expected to see from the 303 Aerospace product. From my personal experience it didn't do well at all on exterior surfaces unless they were very smooth to begin with. When applied to rear view mirrors on my truch the product went on very watery and uneven leaving streaks and an overall distasteful look.

On the interior 303 Aerospace performed quite well leaving a nice satin glow to the surface of the dash or just about any other similar surface. I've used it on several interiors with like performance. I dunno, maybe I'm doing something wrong on exterior plastics.

Poorboy's World Trim Restorer is a superb product and I've had great success with it on a number of vehicles. Meguiar's Ultimate Protectant is another product I've found that works extremely well.

I have some Ultima Trim Guard but haven't tried it yet due to the weather but I certainly intend to. :props:

Great job Corey! :dblthumb2:

Its a great product if you like it running and washing off when it rains  It has zero durability in my experience.

I know there hasn't been a post since the end of 2010, but it looks like the PBTR is clear in the pictures where the sample I got was pink.

Can anyone confirm this?

I can confirm my sample was clear. Curious to here info on if others have a pink potion in the newer bottles.

I received the sample last year. I hope it was the Trim Restorer! It smells like coconut and that's what I've been using it as :)

Here is a pic:
