I am confused about the 7424 pads. Different companies, different pad sizes and some kind of backing plates?

What kinds of pads does the company recommend? If I buy different pads, do I need backing plates and if I do, where do I get them? I only see a backing plate for Meguiars 3 inch pads. It's confusing me.

You will need a 5" backing plate to go with the 5.5" Lake Country pads. Below is a link describing the utility of the LC pads sold by AG.

I also use 4" flat pads with my PCXP for tight spaces which requires a 3 1/2" backing plate too.

He's going to need to buy a 5" backing plate for the 5.5" pads. All the PC7424XP comes with is the white pad, which is basically useless.

Here's the backing plate you'll need for the Lake Country pads:

Notice that this link gives you three different backing plates: 3.5", 5" and 6". The 3.5" backing plate is good for 4" pads, the 5" backing plate is for 5.5" pads, and the 6" backing plate is for 6.5" pads.

If you go to the autogeek.net store and click on Car Buffers, Polishers & Pads on the left hand side, it will bring you to a lineup of different polishers. Select the PC7424XP and then it takes you to everything you'll ever want or need for that polisher, including backing plates, pads, carpet/upholstery attachments, and even PC7424XP car care kits.

All you need is the following and your good to go
1. PC7424X
2. a 5" backing plate for the PC
3. an assortment of 5.5" Lc pads (I prefer flat) 2-3 orange, white, black and blue whould be enough to start out
4. maybe just maybe a 3.5" backing plate and assorted 4" LC pads for heavier correction and tight spots but not needed if your just starting out.

Also don't forget, a couple of good polishes good MF's to remove everything and you on your way!! Have fun with it!

Orange, white, blue, black pads to start is a good suggestion. You may want one red pad for applying sealants or waxes. The recommendation is to dedicate a red pad for sealants and another for waxes, so that any wax residue in the "wax pad" can not interfere with sealant bonding.

Some of us prefer flat pads, others like the dimpled CCS pads or those with various cuts, waves, cross cuts or hexagons.

Have you chosen polishes yet? What vehicles do you plan to work on first?

Gotcha. I was thinking about using Klasse AIO for a polish, topped with Wolfgang 3.0 paint sealant.

That combo will work fine.

i am glad you are asking-i made the mistake of getting all 6.5 inch pads with my pc xp-not enough power to realy do any correction -but it will with 5.5 inch-good luck

I bought the package with 6.5" pads initially too. I've used 6.5" CCS with the WG Twins, Opt Compound II, Megs UC and 105, and a couple other products. It just takes longer than with 5.5" pads. You need to work in small sections, keep the pad spinning and push the speed setting to 6 when using the 6.5" pads.

I find that 5.5" pads make correction so much faster with the PCXP! I got quite good correction today with both 5.5" flat pads and a 6" Orange Kompressor with Opt Hyper Polish with a Ford Escape. There was no dusting compared to WG TSR, Megs UC, Megs 105 and even WG FG3.

The OHP sprayer only streams product but I figured out how to get polish onto the pad instead of splatters all over my garage floor.
