Been thinking of just cleaning the engines on our cars using a rinseless/waterless method, depending on how you look at it. My thought is this - lightly spray the engine with APC+ at a 10:1 or 4:1 ratio (depending on how dirty it is), agitate where necessary, then rinse with ONR in a Chemical Resistant Pressure Sprayer, and then wipe it down with a microfiber and dress it. My question is, when using ONR for this purpose, what should my ratio of product to water be?

It will be easier to rinse out the engine bay with a hose than waste ONR.

I say to use it at the rinse-less wash ratio, 1oz to a couple gallons. Won't be a waste IMO and I never felt good about running the hose under the hood anyway.

Let us know how it comes out Shane! :xyxthumbs:

:iagree:I never like running a hose on any engine.

Shane, I have onr mixed up at a couple of different ratios and from my experience I would try something at a QD ratio just to ensure all the apc is properly rinsed off avoiding drying out sensitive rubber hoses, belts etc. Plus it's not really wasting much as ONR is pretty cost effective. :dblthumb2:

I dont see any point in using ONR in the engine bay if you are using APC to clean. Just use plain water to rinse. The APC will emulsify the grease/and oils and using ONR in conjunction will not add any additional safety barrier.

What are you expect ONR to do in a situation like this?

Yeah, I'm kinda scared about taking a hose under the hood, which is why I'd like to try my method. Hate to leave the engine dirty, but just wiping it down doesn't do a whole lot.

Good question. To tell you the truth, I'm not really sure. I might do a 50/50 test, meaning I rinse half with just water and half with the ONR solution. See which side turns out better. Seems to me though that I read a post either here or on MOL (I think it was MOL) where somebody did their engine with a waterless/rinseless method, and rinsed their cleaner off using ONR in the rinse. I have the old formula of ONR, so it's not going to hurt anything at any rate.

I don't really have any qualms about using a hose under the hood as I'm also a mechanic and know what to spray and what not to. :dunno:

Yea using ONR is not going to harm anything why not give it a try and post your 50/50 findings.

Using a hose under the hood isn't going to hurt a thing.
