3 vehicles you hate detailing

You just reminded me of the other reason I hated doing the ferrari a few months ago. The owner was another one who had the bolsters sprayed. That thing just had too many things that were a pain to clean and polish. How bout those slots on the rear and the lid? the whole car seemed like it had holes to deal with. And a PITA to tape also, went through 2 whole rolls.

oh jeez i forgot about the decklid and taillight area, yes!

i've never done anything earlier that a 348 but i do appreciate that the newer ones are more like 'normal cars'. i've done this particular 360 a few times and it's pretty pedestrian from a detailing point of view. there is this rough silver finish on the interior door panels that likes to get kicked and keep dirt but no biggie.

Any car that I need a ladder or stepstool to reach the roof. Since I'm only 5'5", that's about 99% of the cars on the market.

The chevy 2500 diesel with 36" tires and rino lining fender flairs I did with a referal discount a few weekends ago.

I beg to differ. Sure, the chrome-clad plastic wheels they're using on some of the models now aren't too great, but there have been some awesome wheel options available for GMT900s. Take my truck for example:

Excuse me, cheap and unsatisfying? I've owned four of them and worked on at least a few dozen others over the years, and they're the farthest thing from cheap and unsatisfying.

I have to agree with you completely.

We had a Trailblazer for 9 years, and it was a great vehicle for us. Cheap POS? Far from it. :nomore:

The most difficult detailing job that I ever did in terms of being outright frustrated was a GMC Denali. The dark green metallic paint was incredibly beautiful, and also had an incredibly tough clear coat. Correction was an absolute nightmare. Pass after pass after pass with M105 and hardly a dent. Finally got it to the point where 95% of the swirls were removed and it looked great, but it was about a 27 hour job.

I hate detailing any car, including mine. I believe anyone who claims to like detailing is insane or lying. Maybe an insane liar.

Detailing is tedious, boring and exacting WORK. It takes me two full days each to detail my Mach1 and F250 Powerstroke.

I like having clean vehicles more than I hate detailing. That's the ONLY reason I do it. I look at it as a necessary evil. Truthfully I got rid of my third vehicle because I hated detailing two cars and a truck.

Detailing as a hobby is about as appealing digging ditches for a hobby.

i agree. and the more obsessive you are as a person, the more painful the process can be because you won't stop until it's perfect...and the clear coat has been polished clean off ; )

I disagree with both XB70 and builthatch

I'm sure many people including myself enjoy spending the day in the garage making their cars stand out. I feel like the labor of cleaning every inch of your car to perfection is one to be appreciated, and the work that goes into bringing out the best in your car is very rewarding. Plus, what man doesn't like power tools? Its fun to pull out the makita and jewel the paint to perfection. Its fun to try new things and see if they work. Its also fun to see your hard work pay off inch by inch.

What part of LABOR don't you understand?:xyxthumbs:

I like power tools. I HATE using a power tool for hours at a time. Especially ones that vibrates my hands to sleep while giving me the benefits of isometric exercise (holding a polisher on the side of a vehicle).

Add using a ladder to get the top of my F250 FX4 cab and camper shell and the possibility of falling off as you're trying to reach the center of the roof, and gosh - it's a swell hobby!

I love the results, but I hate the WORK!

By the way, why do detailers who love spending days detailing their cars and are super meticulous about their work refuse to spend two extra seconds to spell out the full name of products on this website? Or use the Caps key?

I understand every single part of LABOR, but not all work/labor has to be negative. It is enjoyable to spend the day active, focused and hands-on with something I love as much as my vehicles. Every minute from the initial wash to the final wipe down of the windows is an enjoyable moment for me. I guess that makes me Insane. :bat:

And about vibrations, learn a new trade, pick up a rotary.

My next car. No clear coat. No base coat. Polished aluminum. The stripes are polished more.

Do you actually love using a rotary for hours at a time?:bolt:

If I had REAL MONEY, you'd be living in a cottage on my estate. Your only job would be to keep my vehicles impeccably detailed. I don't have real money, so I have to do it myself.

Well said Jon.

Totally with Jon on this one. It's theraputic and relaxing. I would still do this kind of stuff if I won the lottery.
