I am currently using the PC7424xp but looking to upgrade to a rotory. I'm interested in the Flex L3403. What do you all think?

Have you ever used a rotary before? If not, maybe you should give the 3401 a try 1st.The 3401 is going to be safer than the 3403,and it correct's very well.

Never used a rotory before but, can't learn without doing. How much more does the 3401 correct vs. the PC?

The 3401 isn't a rotary, it's a forced rotation DA. And it's a TOTALLY different animal to use and control than the 3403 (I own both, and both are top-notch tools). Safer yes, corrects well yes, slightly easier to use than a full-blown rotary perhaps, but the learning curve isn't the same regardless.

I would say a 3401 can do 80-85% of what a rotary can when paired with the right pad(s), product(s), and techniques. With the 3401, Surbuf pads especially will be your friend.

Don't be scared, just go easy. I love my makita but a lighter machine like the flex 3403 sparks my interest. I have the 3401 and can tell you that Flex's build quality is very good. No guts no glory Do it Do it you won't be sorry.

Thanks for the input so far guys, much appreciated. Still debating.

You are correct Shiny Lil Detlr, the 3401 is NOT a rotary.I didn't say it was.I was just giving the forum member another option. As moving from a PCXP to a rotary will take some discipline.
I think it comes down to the user's capibilities, and how well they pick something up?
But yes,THANK YOU  for the correction that I did not mention (and assumed) R/TED knew that the 3401 was not a rotary.

I also have the DA and rotary, and indeed "Top Notch" tools.:dblthumb2:

BTW R/TED,I appologize I didn't mention the 3401 is a DA not a rotary.

Op was talking about a rotary and not a DA.

If the OP knew the 3401 was not a rotary, why bring it up?

Thought you already assumed that.

These are the machines I use and they all have their place.

While I have done paint correction with the Porter Cable 7424 I mostly use it for applying sealants and waxes. I do have smaller pads that help me correct in tight areas and it works really well.

The Porter Cable 7424 was my first DA polisher and I've had it for about 4 years and it's served me very well,

Oh, my rotary is a Makita 9227.

I know the 3401 is a DA, just want to know how much more correction is possible with the 3401 vs. the PC. Since i have the PC i really don't want to spend the money on another DA. Thats why i am interested in the L3403

The 3401 will correct a little faster than the PC. With the new polishes like Meg's 105/205, Optimum Spray Compound/Polish a PC can now do some serious correction. A 3403 and a PC would make a great combo and your pads are interchangeable.
