Just got my polisher today, and haven't had a chance to use it, but it really does appear to be a well built tool. Anything I need to be aware of from a maintainance standpoint?

Also, has anyone come up with a use for the white pad included with the 7424xp? Maybe use it with a glass cleaner?

I used the included pad as a "white" pad, i.e., for pre-wax cleaners or all-in-ones. It may not be as "fancy" as a Lake Country CCS, etc., but it worked well for me on daily drivers. According to another site, it has a gentle cleaning action and can be used for a variety of polishing and waxing applications.

I have never done any maintenance on mine other than just cleaning it after I'm done. That is with just personal, not professional use.

Not sure if you mean glass cleaner or glass polish, but I would think it is too mild for use with a glass polish. I recently used a hydro-tech cyan with a glass polish--just as an experiment.

The white pad they give you reminded me of a Meguiars pad. I hate to throw new pads out and I'll figure out somewhere it can be used.

I threw mine away!

I tossed mine and regreted it when I saw the ways folks found to use them where they didn't want to wipe out a higher quality pad. I had a metal polishing job it would've been perfect for. Stick it out of the way somewhere, eventually you'll find a use for it. Of course, then you probably won't be able to find it.

Valid point!

From what I've heard, those white pads are actually made by LC, but to Porter Cable's specs.

As far as maintenance of the machine, there's really none to speak of. I've never done a thing to my original PC7424 and it's lasted over almost a decade of hard use. It's just now showing signs that it needs to be replaced, I just keep not getting around to it.
