Yukon abused paint

It started off innocent enough, my wife asked if I would detail her parent's Yukon as an anniversary gift...I agreed. Well, they live in the woods and the driveway is two parts and over 700' long so I was never really closer than maybe 100' to their Yukon and they always drove their car over when they visited...little did I know what I was in for.

This was the first time I ever washed a car and it looked worse clean than it did dirty. It hadn't been washed in probably 2 years and sat under pine and oak trees and let's just say that some places they took it...the road wasn't as wide as the vehicle.

End of the day, I wound up putting in around 10 hours just into the paint and it was quite an experience.

Really nice, quite the turnaround.

Im sure they wont wait so long before they let you do it again ;)
 
Wow - what a turn-around. I bet you earned major browny points with the wife and in-laws.
 
Thanks and yeah, it earned me some brownie points and got me two follow up detailing jobs. :)

As far as the process goes, I had bug and tar the entire vehicle. After that I clay barred to get ready.

The products I used were Optimum Hyper Compound, then Optimum Polish, Clearkote Red Moose Machine Glaze, PoorBoy's EX Sealant, then topped with Clearkote Carnuba MooseWax. I did pull out an LC yellow pad to start with and worked up from there with the various products.

They almost fell over when they saw it. :D

I can imagine to look on your face when you finally realized the ominous task ahead of you!

From the before and after shots, I'd say you had some pretty satisfied customers by the end of the day..

Several times actually. :D I wish I had done interior before and after shots too because it was almost as bad. Definitely an experience. I had detailed many vehicles before that, although none that bad, but I was able to really test some different techniques, processes, and combinations to see what worked best. It was a really good lab rat vehicle. I learned a ton in the hours I put into it.
 
Amazing turn around. And probably time to partner up with a tree trimmer and widen that driveway!

LOL, funny you say that...guess what I did last weekend? Brought the chainsaw, hedge trimmers, and leaf blower over there and cut everything back to make it about 10' wide now.
 
Wow... amazing turn-around! And good job on taking care of that driveway so hopefully it never gets that bad again!!!
 
Great job correcting the paint surface on this Yukon. Keep up the great work. I'm sure there going to get you a nice gift for the holidays.
