TEASER .... Shelby Cobra GT500

Wow! great test spot! :D

my bro just bought a honda and the factory paint has such a terrible orange peel thats its unbelievable!!!

All other cars had the same orange peel and the sales guy(un knowledgeable as usual) said "Sir, the paint has a special wavy texture" LOL! :D

I would have left...or punched the guy in the face! I have been pretty lucky as all my cars...2 nissans and a mazda have not had orange peel.

"Special Wave Texture" :wow: is there an addition charge for the special texture. LOL!!!:D

Joe, looking good. Can't wait to see the rest of the project!

Good to see you around again ;)

"A lot of the increased peel has to do with factories switching to water based paints.... but I'm not sure if the paint on this 'stang is water based or not."

I am not completely sure, but I believe this is exactly why this is happening. I think almost all manufacturers have switched to water based paint.

As a hobbyist and not a professional detailer, my decision is to just live with orange peel. I can understand if the vehicle is going to be show worthy , but for everyday cars orange peel is a fact of ownership now.

The colored paint is indeed water-based, but the clear coat is still solvent based, albeit at a reduced VOC content (under half of what it was). This makes clear heavier and quicker to dry, which is great to keep costs down at the factory, but bad for appearance. Further, HVPL application has more tendency for paint to clump together during the spray, worsening orange peel more.

But in reality orange peel is what you get when you have non-car people making decisions at car companies deeming the orange peel "acceptable". The changes in the paints are just an excuse.

Mission completed!! WHAT A BLAST!! I'll post a write up when I have a moment!

I have an awesome write up ready to go BUT.......... In the polishing process I used Meguiars MF system (D/A Microfiber System - Car Care Forums: Meguiar's Online ) I took detaile dpics of what it can and can't do. I pushed it to the limits and tested it a gazillion different ways BUT....... I was asked by Meguiar's not to say much about it for now. When I am given the green light I will post the write up. Thanks for understanding.

OK I can't post about the MF system yet but I thought I'd show you some pictures of the completed job.
