Hello Cosmin,

I was looking at your website (nice one btw) and I noticed something I don't understand... for Clay Bar you mention you do not offer this for Black Cars... Can you explain why to a newbie like me? :)

Pretty impressive amount of exotic cars you were able to work on, I am very jealous ;) How did you get the first one? I imagine once you do a few word of mouth will do a lot to give you more, it's the first ones that must be really hard to get.... right?

I have a transit as well. 28mpg with no weight. 26 mpg loaded.

I agree with Calendyr that your website is laid out quite well and the number of incredible cars you have as clients is very impressive. Your photo gallery is terrific not only as examples of the quality of your work but as a document to show off these great automobiles (that you never see in my Piney Woods area of East Texas!). I never knew Austin had that many rich people!!

Nice detailing Vans, do you get good mileage with the Transit?

depends how you drive it , the first unit is loaded and i step on it so i don`t get a great mpg , but is decent compared with other ford working vehicles. i am happy with it.

i had one experience when i saw what black car with soft clear looks after claybar so... nope i can`t sell that. polish is a must special on black cars with soft clear.... i do sell this service if the client requested and he understands the side effects. but i don`t recommend it.

i would say the first one is not hard to get , the hardest part is to have them keep coming ;)
the best way is to put your work out there. focus on results, quality , be professional.
and sell and deliver what clients wants

Thank`s!

Are you talking about the milky tan lines all over the car? I had to clay a black car the other day and it looked horrible after I was done. Washed right off though. Probably does the exact same thing on any vehicule but the black makes it pop out more. If that is not what you mean can you explain further?

I am happy to hear the first one is not hard to get ;) I plan to take the time it takes to get the job done perfectly at first. Once I have some experience and it gets down to routine it will take less time and I can have a better hourly rate.

About to start working on a website, I hope mine can come half as decent as yours.

i was speechless today, i call the day off due the weather and went with a client to replace his watch... few minutes later ... a gift $3200 watch Raymond Weil Freelancer

Cosmin,

I spoke with a dent repair specialist about his business, briefly, when I hired him to remove a dent in my car. In this brief conversation he brought up a concern that is very applicable to detailing business owners. As the owner of your company, how do you prevent your employees from learning all your skills and venturing out on their own, and possibly stealing some of your clients?

You could keep them from doing any paint work and simple be your assistant, but they can watch. DA polishers have changed this industry so much, for someone that works as your assistant, the skill of polishing could easily be picked up. They know exactly which products to use because they see you use it.

This question is directed to Cosmin, but not excluding all the other detail business owners.

Cheers!

Will, I guess because being able to detail a car does not make you a successful auto detailing business owner. That is an inherent risk most services providers take when teaching their trade to others.

i have an non compete and confidential agreement.
my clientele is very narrow, so even if they will go on their own they will not be my competition, they may end up working on other type of cars.
it takes a lot of hard work , skills and business to get successful in this business.
as far as i am positive and optimist i will always have an ace in my hand....

a quick example , if i feel that he steps on my toes. i can hire one more guy and sell 20% off and put him on a bench :)
so.. are always options , just see the big picture.

* Update

close to 4 Years in april since i start , and here is my last update...
a long journey with a lot of hard work and long hours, i start with few detailing bottles and a buffer , packed into a sedan trunk for 2 years.
now i run with 2 vans , one employee and plan for second one .
what ever i did and what i post in the beginning of this thread it works and it keeps giving me results
i finish 2013 with 45% increase in sales compared with 2012, that puts me in 6fig sales and an goal is 120k-150k for this year. i may have to market a bit more aggressive this year so i can expand the business and rich my goals.

:dblthumb2:

Simply amazing! Congratulations and think you for sharing!

Thanks for checking in with another inspiring yearly update Cosmin. The three keys to a successful business in my opinion based on my life experiences are: Hard work, A strong Mind & Heart, and Sacrifices.
