After sitting here reading a lot of threads about diluting Opti-Bond at 1:1 and using as a spray I was wondering how well it would work for DP Tire Gel. Out to the garage I went to see what would happen.

Tire after cleaning and before any gel was applied

DP Tire Gel applied 1:1 on the right, DP Tire Gel used strait out of the bottle on the left. This is immediately after applying

After both sides have dried to the touch

I applied the 1:1 mix by spraying it on the tire then wiping with a yellow foam wax applicator. I applied the gel out of a bottle with a yellow foam wax applicator.

As you can see you will get the same results using it either way but by mixing it you will save money by using much less product.

Conclusion: Save your money and mix the DP Tire Gel at 1:1, spray it on then wipe it down.

Nice D!!! Who would have thunk it Im the MAN
Hey, tries looked really clean! What did you clean with?

Thank you!

I used the DP Gel Wheel Cleaner that I got back in Oct for the first time. While its not anywhere near a gel (not happy about that) it did a fine job at cleaning the tires and wheel wells.

Dwayne, could you update this thread on how each side wears in the coming days/weeks? I'm curious if the 1:1 side will last as long, or if it will fade any faster. I'm using DP tire gel and this would be a great way to make it last!

Great, but I would be willing to bet that the durability has been compromised by diluting it. Please update this thread in a few weeks.

I'll have to apply it on Mrs D's daily driver as this one doesn't get out of the garage much. Also being in Ohio with all the snow and salt on the roads I don't see anything lasting very long. I guess I can do it but just understand that its not going to last as long as it would in a warmer climate or in the summers.

I wouldn't be so sure about that.

Maybe if the car was actually driven you would get some real feedback.

Are the results with Opti-Bond about the same as the DP? I just ordered some Opti-Bond.

Do a test when you get the Opti-Bond and get back to us ;)

If I had another spray bottle I would go out and do that test for you right now.

I might have to wait till spring. I put my smaller wheels and tires on in the winter on my truck. They look crappy and I think shine would make em' even more crappy lol. Speaking of spray bottles, where do you buy yours?

Won't the money come out evenly since you will most likely have to reapply the dressing more often to maintain the desired look? Just a thought.

I think its going to last just as long as the non diluted side. Everyone seems to forget that this stuff is mostly water anyway ;)

I've never heard of a Chevy Malibu garage queen. Well, at least not with the new age Malibus.

I guess I only wonder why they didn't dilute it from the factory if it would last as long. Im the MAN

Not a garage queen, I just don't drive it much.
