A Little Birdy Told Me...

I tried the Tire shine for myself today and it has more gloss that OptiBond, I like it very much...darkens the rubber very much and still very natural looking. I sprayed (trigger sprayer) the tire and brushed it on, spreads easy and drys level.

MORE gloss! dang!!

yeah, i asked dr. g about this because i've been using first gen tire shine, and when i've seen opti-bond it always appeared so much more glossy, but what he said matches your previous statement about the latest formulations having similar gloss and other attributes but just being a matter of preferred application - liquid vs. gel.

when i run through my old stock i'll try the new stuff, but i gotta say i like the matte "new tire" look of the original formula stuff. i wonder if the new tire shine can be cut reliably?

I have to say I'd kind of like the OTS and the Opti-Bond to be a little different (in gloss) so that you can pick-and-choose for different applications. If you really want some of the older stuff it's on BOGO now, I have to admit I'm thinking about it...

i agree completely. the high gloss is popular with some people, whereas for me, i prefer the matte by far.

thanks on the BOGO info. i'm good for the old stuff - i'm still operating from my supply i got mid-2008! i have a bottle and full gallon left :buffing:

Um...Integrity was saying that the new OTS is essentially V.2, but that there was a "tweak" to the V.1 in the middle--so I think in 2008 you have the tweaked, which in that other thread with the side-by-side picture is indistinguishable between the tweaked OTS and the Opti-Bond. So are you saying you think the OTS that you have is more matte than Opti-Bond?

I was only suggesting that you buy the BOGO stuff because it is more matte than the new stuff, but if this is accurate http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum...mum-tire-shine-vs-opti-bond-2.html#post324131 then there isn't much difference...I'm so confused...

the tire shine i have been using is definitely not as glossy as the sample 4oz opti-bond i have tried. i'd be surprised if the stuff i have is anything but the original formula.

that's why i was concerned when i read and then heard from dr. g that they are essentially the same at this point in terms of gloss, because i prefer the relatively matte stuff i've been using.

Well, I dunno if I should be buying some of the soon-to-be-obsolete stuff on BOGO or not. I notice the picture of the gallon has the "new formula" sticker on it if that means anything. Of course I already have probably several years worth of various tire dressings already on hand...so I think I'm answering my own question, which is of course that I need more!

You never knw, it could go both ways. The new stuff will be good stuff, but others may love the way "old" formula looked/preformed. So the old stuff will be gone in a year or two and the new stuff will be around for awhile, IMO I would BOGO the old stuff and wait for the reviews then snatch up the new if needed.

As tempting as that BOGO is, I'm going to hold, I gotta use up the stuff I have, I can't be buying stuff to use in 2015 because who knows what new dressings will be out then? ;)

Setec, it sounds like you are tryin to stir up the poop pot IMO. My question is why?

What are you talking about? I asked from some combination of buyer's remorse and flavor-of-the-month anxiety. On top of that I have had a lot of trouble in the past figuring out the difference between OTS and Opti-Bond (in the real world of usage, I know one is a gel and one is a liquid), because the descriptions on the OPT site are (or were) so similar. So now when I thought I had it figured out it's changed again.
