Big issues finding a product I need !!!

Hello everyone,

I cant believe this one, but i'm having a very hard time finding a product.

I really need an effective tire brush to scrub tires. sounds simple but my search continues on. I have placed a lot of demands on the brush I want because its embarrassing for me to tell you guys how much money I have wasted buying, trying and chucking previous products.

The brush is for my personal cars. I run into issues in these area's,

the brush needs to be able to be effective on or where :

1- very low profile tires
2- fairly strong bristles, but not stiff
3- will not scratch painted clear coated wheels if "slight" contact is made (which is really an issue of #1, as I cant find a brush that is the correct size for low pro tires)
4- non-contoured - (mainly an issue of #1 as well, as all the contoured brush's look to be sized for truck tires)
5- size size size of brush - to be use on a car with very little ride height, so the fender is close to the wheel well. again a brush that is sized correctly for "car" tires only. not truck tires. as to avoid contacting the fender.

So I am wondering if you guys have any suggestions as to what tire brush could potentially meet my needs. I looked and tried many of the AG products, and have not found anything on there site that will work well enough for me to be happy with, or get the job done effectively. So I am going to need to buy outside of AG. With this in mind, I dont mind where the product is sold, I would just like the recommendation.

Let me know what you think., i'm open to pretty much anything , as the things I have found to work fairly well, I do not believe were brush's that were designed to be used for this purpose.
 
Why dop you need such a stiff brush? Let your APC do the hard work

Go to Wal-Mart and buy one of there blue handled tire brushes. They also have a long handled fender well brush too
 
Carrand has a nice tire brush that might fit what you need. I have one that has been used on numerous low profile tires with absolutely no issues yet.

I actually said quite the opposite, I do NOT want a stiff brush. I want a softer almost paint safe brush to avoid scratching the wheels and or fender.

If it was a little stiffer than a paint safe brush that would be fine, so long as its the correct size that I dont have to rub into the other parts besides the wheel.

so just to be clear, I stated that i do not want a stiff brush.
 
The one at wal-mart is not stiff at all. Its very soft and says is safe on paint. But I wouldn't use it on the paint. It's a long handle and can get into fenders and clean the wheels and tires. Good stuff and its only 5-6 bucks.

Yep, there as good as any, and there plenty soft. I use them on wheel weels, door jams, engines, tires and wheels. I also use the on front ends when there bug covered

no problem, I figured you just read it wrong.

thx for the advice and confirmation on the Wal-mart brush, i am going to try to get there this weekend.
 
I was just thinking about this and was going to ask it myself. I was going to try the Mothers brushes from AG. Have you tried those?
What brushes have you tried?
 
Try the black Schmitt! It works great for tires and fender liners, better than brushes IMO. I will rough brush fender liners only when needed, as the Schmitt cleans more evenly and is easier to fit in tighter places. On tires it doesn't leave "brush strokes". Fold an edge and it gets into the crack between the tire and wheel very well.

The Schmitt will last a good time, and doesn't have bristles to get whacked out of shape. No bristles also means more precision and easier to keep off wheels. To clean I lay it on the floor and spray it with the pressure washer, shake, let air dry.
 
Maybe you could use a parts cleaning brush like is used for cleaning greasy parts in a parts washer. I keep a few of these on hand and they work perfect for cleaning low profile tires and are slightly stiffer than a paint brush. At $3 or $4 each you can trim the bristles back a little to adjust the stiffness for different applications. They are soft enough that they won't scratch wheels but stiff enough to get tires clean.

yes I have tried it. you have a GTI (tornado red user name) ? me too, MK6, I just traded it in for a B8 S4, and a set of KW V3's are going on the S4. the mothers brush is too contoured and you will not be able to clean the bottom of the wheel with it. the tires are too low pro.

I have tried every brush on AG that looks like it would work. while they do work, they either could easily scratch my wheel with stiff brisltes, or are too big for the task. at the moment the green bristled brush are the closest thing I can find that work fairly well. while there big, the bristles wont scratch my wheels, and considering I have zero wheel gap, if it contacts the fender, it will not scratch it either. but I have to be real careful.

nice. this is the kind of advice I am seeking. I am going to add it into my cart. thank you. After reading your post and looking at the schmitt , It looks like I will be happy with it.

Don't know if this helps or not, but I've always just used a cheapo brush from the drugstore, supermarket, etc. They are typically 1-1/2" x 4". You can just check the stiffness and bristle density right there at the store to see if it meets your needs. The ones I get are similar to Vinyl & Leather Scrub Brush

I have 30 series tires with tiny sidewalls and expensive clear-coated forged wheels. I would agree with others that if your tires are really grungy, you should look into a good APC and/or change your dressing if they are getting all gunked up.

I used the same brush on my wife's SUV tires to scrub them along with some Meg's APC+. The tires were nasty with dead brown oxidized rubber. Maybe you can post what you're trying to remove/clean as well.

thank you for the advice.

I'm not cleaning anything special or grungy. I actually maintain the cars on the regular and there is very little buildup, and the buildup really is not bad. I am using either powerclean or Adams APC to clean the tires. along with a brush. I always want to agitate the APC with a brush, regardless of how dirty they are, and I'm confident my cleaners are powerful enough. I just need a brush that I could find that is sized to clean my tires only, as I dont want to hit the wheels or fender. I got brush's that for sure get the job done, but I want something that is sized better. Like the small brush you put the link to. Something like that would be perfect and I never though of using it. I like the idea. Might give it a try. as of now I just order the Schmitt. and am gonna give that a try.

I cant take pictures at the moment as the cars not being used , nor are the other cars being maintained very much other than a rinseless wash on the body panels. I'm in NY and only have the weekends to work on the cars, and with the weather I'm just not up to doing anything special. I'm just a hobbyist who maintains about 5 cars on the regular. If it came down to feeling forced to do it, I would probably just quit caring for the other cars besides my own.
 
Without too much grunge, a small brush like that should work. I found that the APC works much better with some brush agitation compared to much higher strengths APC without. Then when it get's close to the ground (so you don't scrape your knuckles), I switch to holding the brush on one end rather then holding it lengthwise.

Another product you may try is Meg's #40 Cleaner/Conditioner. I personally think it is a terrible conditioner but a good cleaner. If my wheels are all waxed up, and I don't want to strip it off with an APC, a few applications of Meg's #40 can also clean them up (lite grunge). I found the stuff washes off almost immediately with any exposure to water. Then, once it's clean, I'll switch back to something more durable.

No problem on the pictures. I'm sure your S4 is a beauty.
 
Maybe a paint brush with the bristles cut off a bit may suit ur needs also.
 
The black Shmitt is definitely the best route. You could also compliment it with the Swissvax wheel brush. It has great bristles. Not too soft and not too hard-very full and durable. I have a couple I use for wheels, tires and engines-absolutely love them.
