what to use after polish and before wax?

hi all,

Any polishing will leave something behind, oil or etc.
What do you use after DA polishing to prepare for wax?
To make sure wax will stick at it's best?
I plan to use Meg UC and SwirlX and then may be APC+ 1:10?
I plan to apply AutoGlym HD wax on top.

what would you recommend?

After cleaning or paint correction as a rule I wipe the surface down with a 50 / 50 mixture of Isopropyl Alcohol and water. This cleans any residual oils that might be left over and once it's dry the surface is perfect for applying your favorite sealant and wax.
 
Pinnacle Paintwork Cleansing Lotion is my go to paint cleaner.
 
Not sure what Griot's recommends but some do want some real time to cure like

"Tech Note: Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant 3.0 is a water-based, oxygen activated paint sealant. After buffing off the sealant, the remaining coating needs to cure for 12 hours in dry conditions to fully bond to the paint. Exposure to moisture during this time will drown the polymers. For the best results, allow 12 hours of curing time"

maybe someone with xp with Griot's can chime in or use that google thing and see what you find.
 
I'm a Griot's fanboy and have used the sealant and onestep sealant. I have not found any info on cure times. However they do not recommend their carnuba over their sealant. I'm not sure if that means all carnubas.
 
I used Griot's one step sealant 1st time and removing it wasn't as easy as removing Meg's T wax 2.0.
I used Griot's DA with Orange pad to apply sealant, 2-4 passes as it includes fine polish.
I started wiping sealant after 10 - 30 min. Maybe 30 min was to long to leave it for?
Its been 20 hours after applying and I'll move with AG HD Wax now.
I plan to use DA with red (crimson) HT pad to apply wax - 1-2 passes only.
I'll post result pics later ;-)

I used it a few weeks ago. I had good luck with using less and working it longer. I would polish one panel, polish the next, and then go back a buff the first panel. Came off easy. For a dodge neon, I used about 4oz.
 
wow, you guys make things harder than they need to be, at least in my eyes ; )

after you polish, wipe with IPA. Mike Phillips did a write-up recently regarding solutions - he recommended 10-20% IPA vs. water; the dilution ratios change depending on the percentage of alcohol you are using, 91 vs. 70.

anyway, so wipe with IPA to prep the surface for LSP.

if you use a product like optimum sealant, you can apply a layer or two with 30 minutes inbetween without issue. then top with the wax of your choice that does NOT have a bunch of solvents in it (souveran liquid is an example of a solvent-rich wax). that takes another, what...10-15 minutes depending on the vehicle?

easy. no need to make it time consuming or difficult.
 
Using the Griot's for some time now, and if you have any difficulty in getting the sealant or the waxes off, you simply have used too much. Spritz the surface with a good detailer, or in G's world, the Speed Shine, which really IS marvelous for this sort of thing.

I personally have not mixed up any wipe down solution. I think its from old darkroom days, in having mix anything requiring measuring, extra containers etc...but that's ME...no flames please. I do just use G's paint prep and its quick, easy, and my final 2-3 coats of carnuba go on great. G's is not saying that their sealants need much time to "cure" or bond, but I personally like the results I get from an overnight, or an AM application and afternoon removal. A lot has to do with the temperature and humidity at the time. BUT then I am not running a commerical op here, just four cars that need a lot of TLC so the bling stays where it should. Those are resulting pics.
I did wash, clay, touch up paint, Meg's UC with 2 MicroFingers Pads, Griot's One Step Sealant with Griot's Orange pad (20h cure time), AutoGlym HD Wax with LC HT Crimson (red) pad.

Now I have to figure out how to clean Crimson from HD Wax?
