2 Speeding Tickets in 1 Hr! :(

You are correct sometimes it is all about revenue. I've also been the victim of some sensless tickets in addition to my story above. Try 56 mph in a 55 mph zone and 21 mph in a 20 mph zone. :eek:
 
Yup. The county police cracked down in my work area for about 3 months and after giving out hundreds of tickets and raking in big $$$ they just backed off. But for 3 months I saw 5 - 8 cars pulled over every trip into work. Many of my co-workers got tickets. For some this was their first! One woman was pulled over because the officer didnt think she had on a seat belt. black seatbelt over a black jacket.
We were all in a rage but there was nothing we could do. We felt like we were being bullied.
 
I would say it depends on how fast you were going, traffic/road conditions at the time, and whether or not you were, in fact knowingly speeding. Just remember, you are guilty until you prove your innocence in cases of tickets. You can only hope the officer doesn't show up, but I doubt even that will guarentee you to get out of it.

Years ago, I got a warning ticket for speeding and a ticket for loud mufflers one night, and I was more than happy to pay the ticket for speeding, and put new pipes on the car the next day. By the way, I was going double the speed limit +5. (the speed limit had just gone to 55).

You might as well pay the fines and slow down. You might go to court and beg for mercy, but 2 tickets in an hour will probably gove the judge the laugh for the day.

Wait--that's 115MPH with a warning?? You silver-tongued devil! I'm hoping that you meant you were going the double-nickel+5 (60 MPH) because around here 115 will get you thrown in jail (speeding, reckless driving, reckless endangerment).

If you did talk a 115 MPH ticket down to a warning, it just shows to go you and reminds me of a story I heard about a kid getting pulled over for a headlight out, that he might have just got a warning for but gave the cop the "do you know who my father is etc. etc." so he got the ticket. He pissed the cop off so much about a half hour later he came back the other way and got a second ticket for the same headlight...
 
Thanks for all the responses people :). I've read everyone posts and will take it into consideration. I appreciate your input. These citations happened in California.

I need to go check my driving record because I don't believe I have any points on my record. It had been about 5 years since I got my last ticket and I went to traffic school for that one.

To clarify the first ticket, I was cited for driving 90 mph on a 70mph freeway. Honestly, I never hit 90mph it was like 85mph and this was because I was near a diesel truck and hate being near them, gets me nervous. I also want to add that I hardly ever drive above 80 mph on a freeway because it makes me nervous driving that fast.

The second ticket was driving 78mph on 55mph highway. Again, I was going about 65 mph. No cars and late at night.

So...I will admit I was driving over the speed limit :doh: but I have found enough credible information to use that can challenge the citation and hopefully get it waived. I figure it does not hurt to try this time. The least they could do is tell me "No" and pay the fines. Even though I will challenge I can still qualify to take traffic school for one citation.

I've heard CA can be tough. I wish you all the best.

I once passed a cop at 150+ in my Porsche. He had another guy pulled over but he saw me alright. Out of fear of the radio, I Took the next exit and pulled into a McD's
 
I've always gone to court and talked with the prosecuting attorney. My intent is simply to keep the ticket off my record. I have no problem paying the fine as I did break the law and earned the fine 99% of the time. I have had almost all of tickets dropped (stilled payed fine), and they basically gave me a "no same or similar" type of probation for 6 months. So as long as I stayed free of any similar offenses for 6 months the ticket stayed off my record and my insurance remained cheap! :D

It's really a win win situation for both the county and me. They get the revenue and my record stays clean. ;)



Note: This usually only works if you record is clean up to that point.

Just to lend a police officer side, my brother is a police officer and in charge of traffic and he HATES writing speeding tickets. Will only do it if you are rude, going way to fast or your speed record looks like you think you are a Nascar Driver! So it's not just about the money, sometimes it just you are driving too fast. And if you got two in one hour, you probably are driving too fast! :laughing:
Worst for me....I got two warnings in one day but in two different states, why.... I was driving too fast!!! :cruisin:
 
How did they get your speed? Radar, Laser,or Pace ? It's always better to go to court and fight the ticket. It's all about the revenue even if you are guilty a lot of times the Judge will make you pay the fine and court cost but withheld judification so no points on your liscense and your insurance will not go up in price.

I would recommend getting a really good radar detector and built in laser jammers. Beltronics Pro or Escort

Thanks for the info Rasky. According to the DMV clerk my record was clean. I just got back from the DMV and to my surprise only waited 1 hour and a half! I fixed my 3 day expired license (also got cited for this fix it ticket at the second citation) So hopefully I can keep it squeaky clean and point free like you have. :props:

:wow: Wish I had your luck Meghan.. Although, I have escaped a few before. I was never rude to the cop but was speeding like you stated. I just wanted to get home because I was tired.Good to know in general. I would imagine the officers hated it because it was cold and windy when they gave me the ticket.

Bobby, they got my speed through radar (both). One was from behind and the other in front, sux. I actually started looking at the Valentine One yesterday. I think I may actually take your advice on the radar detector.

I am going to go to court or fight. I will not just pay the fine. Thanks for the advice.

I've had a Valentine for years - never had a speeding ticket while using it. I also try to find someone going fast that I can tail for extra insurance.
 
i've been pulled over for silly things..
*example* leaving a parking lot and turning the tires over(on accident honestly) cause after a long days work a Stage-6 clutch can be hard to release smoothly lol- officer pulled me over and we had a talk about it, then he asked, "how do you even drive this thing on the street?" lol and i responded, "constantly trying not to do what i just did" he let me off with a good laugh.

I have an Escort 9500ix, great detector too. If money is no object, the Escort 9500, Valentine, or Bell STi Driver are the tops out there.

Distracted driving is much more dangerous than speeding IMHO. Autobahn is one of the safest roads out there.
 
Better hire a lawyer. 2 tickets in 1 hour=slow learner.
 
In my opinion I think radars are kinda of stupid. I'd rather just keep my eyes open. It also helps to know the roads your driving on. Another good rule of thumb is to not speed as much near the end of the month. Regardless of what people saw I am convinced that they need to meet a quota. So the end of the month they are all in a frenzy trying to write tickets, set speed traps, etc.

As for the two tickets in 1 hour. I must admit, that is pretty reckless. Most people would learn the first time and hold off the speeding for at least a week.

I've had 1 ticket in my life.. I was going 130mph.. down to 100.. then 80.. in a 55. The cop was very nice and wrote me at 74+ instead of giving me a reckless and taking me down to jail.

I would fight the two tickets, its worth a shot. Chances are one of the cops won't show and one or both of the tickets will either be reduced or dropped.

I also recommend for anyone who drives an automatic to switch to a manual. You pay MUCH more attention to the road, other drivers, and the mechanics of your car.. Plus.. they are much more fun!
 
Got me beat. Got pulled over for 56 in a 35 but I got a break for my driving record and he knocked it down to 5 over.
 
Been there done that, actually did it twice, and got two at one time, and yes it sucks, sorry bud, hope it all works out for ya.
 
Your best bet is to just plea not guilty. I have had several tickets and never had to pay full price and get points on my license. Because you took time out of your day to fight the ticket the will give you a break. i will never go without a fight. ust my .02 cents

Haha I do that all the time...

I always look out for all the "u-turn" areas for emergency vehicles. I will never go 5 mph over around those. I have learned my lesson when I got caught doing 110 in a 55. I try not to go over 80 on the highway but, there's always the occasional urge when its late an no one is around.
 
Granted it is different in most states, in NJ, #1, there are no "quotas" as some people call them. Actually, NJ has deemed that it is illegal for departments to have quotas on the amount of tickets issued. #2, everyone keeps talking about revenue. You think police officers get a bonus if they write more tickets!? Most could care less about the money that is paid to the courts for tickets. It's not like that money comes to the police department.

Someone mentioned mailing in a check for an amount over the ticket due. I've heard that before, maybe in your state, that does not work in NJ.

Also, if i write a summons to someone, say for speeding, that is not a court mandatory ticket. if you want to go to court and speak with the prosecutor, you can do that, however, the police officer is not required to be there for every summons. of course, it's different if the case is going to trial, which rarely ever happens for simple traffic offenses, (except DUI)

to the OP, i've never heard of that written declaration thing, may be different where you are. I would say just go to court, speak to the prosecutor or judge or whomever runs the show there, and see how they can help you out. if you havnt had a ticket in a few years, i'm sure they will drop something.
