2 Speeding Tickets in 1 Hr! :(

You got two in one hour, I don't think any judge is going to look lightly on this. Good luck, I guess it is either accept and pay it since you were obviously speeding, I mean come on, twice in one hour you got caught....

or

Contest it in court and see what the judge says.

A cop clocks a guy doing 15 over. He hits the lights and gives chase.
The guy speeds up and tries to evade the cop.
He eventually gets caught up in traffic and pulls over.
The cop is livid and asks the guy why he didn't pull over right away.
The guy says well you see officer last month my wife ran off with a cop.
So what? The cop demands.
Well... umm, sir I thought he was trying to give her back.

I can appreciate the situation. I was running late. I got caught speeding. Now I was really running late. I thought it was like lightning never strikes twice. Wrong again!

Thanks for all the responses, all have been helpful. I never thought this thread would develop 7 pages of reading material. :)

Kind of goes to show how almost everyone (I know there are those people that have an immaculate record, good for you ;)) is affected by speeding tickets. It sucks to be me right now and it will suck even more once I see the fines. I still have not made up my mind on what I will do. I keep going back and forth, pay or go to trial? I'm sure I'll make up my mind eventually.

...help me out here as I dont fully know the answer to this. When the Dept needs more money for say more squad cars. Who does the Chief/Commissioner take the request to?

Every department has a budget. Turnover of cars is accounted for. Agencies have a pretty good idea of how often new cars need to be purchased to replace the aging fleet. City police departments have budgets that are decided by the city. Sheriff offices are decided by the county. State budgets are decided on by state legislature.

If the people in charge of deciding budgets don't want an agency to have it, they won't get it. It doesn't matter how many tickets are written. For example, we haven't had a pay raise in over 10 years with the Colorado State Patrol. Legislature just won't give us the budget needed to fund pay raises. Every year it is number 1 on the agenda, but they won't give it to us. We could write a trillion tickets and generate 100 trillion in revenue, but it won't change a thing. Just keep in mind, every agency doesn't operate the same. There are going to be differences across the country.

Out of curiosity.. What does an average police officer make?

Most of that is public information, which can be found in some websites data universe.

Of course, it depends where you are in the country as well. In NJ, starting salaries can range from $30k all the way to $60 just to start (full time)

top pay can vary as well depending on the department, i'd say between $80k and $120k as a Police officer
