Never used the gold ones....I have a few of the red ones and I like them!!!

yes, they are.

BUT, the red are PLENTY soft, and I think anything softer is just overkill. thats just my opinion.

I had 2 of the gold pads and loved them! Sadly AG does not carry them. Lately I have been using the yellow foam pads because I can buy them in bulk cheap and throw away after each use.
