Recently (2days ago) friend of mine had a wreck, since then the car has been put back together and the body shop is now in the proccess of painting the car.....my question is, what is the cure time for paint to fully cure? This paint job was not dryed by heat or anything, just air dried.....also, when is it safe to wash, apply wax or polish? Oh, its not a single stage paintt job.......if that helps any.

30 days to gas out completely before a wax or sealant can be applied.

Thanks for the quick reply SeaJay..I thought that was the rule of thumb...just wanted to double check.......
Does that also mean on washing the fresh paint too? Surely washing it gently wouldn't hurt it, or would it.

I wouldn't even bother washing it until you can go the whole mile and wax/seal it at the same time. Something else to consider is some car washes leave stuff behind which could possibly affect out-gassing.

You are safe to wash, sand and polish. Keep in mind that fresh paint is easier to correct (and easier to mar). Ask the painter about out-gassing and sealing/waxing. 30 days is a good rule of thumb but it could be 60 or even 90 days depending on the paint system used.

I hope your friend is OK.

Ask the guy that painted it - only he knows how it was painted and how long you should wait.

If you wax, polish or whatever, and the paint fails, the painter could say it was because of your work.

On an air dry, I wouldn't feel comfortable for 90 days, particularly with the cooler temperatures this time of year.

Thanks for the reply....But this car has never, ever been thru a Car Wash, it has always been maintained by me, I am sure he has sprayed it off ( using a car wash)...I am sure he would never go 30 days without washing it....lol

I am sure he can hold off on 30 days of not polishing or waxing........surely its safe to wash it (Hand Wash...Megs Gold Class, or ONR ) maybe hold off on washing for a week or so
