Hey guys and gals,
I was graced with the ability to watch one of the last shuttle roll outs in the history of the united states. There may be one more but they are not sure about atlantis. Anyway, I got some pics some of you may enjoy. There was NOTHING like being there in person and watching this piece of history take place. Hope you all enjoy these pictures as much as I enjoyed taking them! :Picture:

Thanks for looking guys and gals!

Awesome pics! It's sad to see the ending of an era, for sure. I'm still hoping they come up with a replacement for the shuttles once funding can be restored (if that ever happens).

Yeah, it's a real shame we are going to pay other countries to take our Astronauts to space. Spread the wealth you know.

Dave

Shiny lil D: Yes, it is a shame honestly. The country that used to be the leader in space exploration could almost care less now. My step dad is losing his job in June working on the crawler. Which is why he joined AF reserve. He has taken voluntary lay off in April and will be headed over seas for a few months. Sad to see the end of an era.

What alot of people don't realize is most of our technology has come from NASA. Most in our everyday lives. Thanks for the comments guys :)

Dave that's still pretty awesome! They had a family day where workers could bring their family members and tour the facility. I was able to see where the tiles for the shuttle were made, Toured the VAB lab, engine room, went out to discovery's launch pad, and several other things. Amazing that this stuff had all been built over 40 years ago. I could sit for hours around that place.
I'll see if I can dig up a pic looking up inside the VAB lab.

Nice pics!! I remember watching the Discovery Channel on how they made that platform it rides on. That thing is awesome too.

Right up close to the VAB! Apparently a dying example of American exceptionalism. Sad state of affairs when you have to pay Russians to fly Americans into space.

Same platform used in the Apollo program (with mods). I wanted to be an astronaut until I found out one had to be smart...
