CRAZY! Just wanted to vent a little bit....last April I was laid off from my job with no hopes of a return, which was ok cause I needed a break from working out of town all the time.Leaving home on sunday evening and coming home on friday evening got old!

So I worked around the house got some things accomplished and searched for a new job,now being in construction there aren't jobs out there and the few that are won't pay above 10 bucks an hour so they are notfor me! Plus I had that dreadded Honey do list from the wife that is longer than a Mega roll of charmin and never seems to end.

Well my semi-part-time detailing helped through the year so I said to Mrs07 I'm going full time with this and we'll make it work....so this winter the shop was cleaned out and organized and began to get ready for spring weather. Then got some calls for some remodeling work anda few things here and there now this where crazy comes in,

Lady called me 2 weeks ago about doing some repair work on a rental property,ok cool a little more work But when I went and looked at it it was really tear it all out and replace and I need it done by next Wed( this was on a monday)....stupid me I took the job...56 hours, removed all flooring ,trim ,doors, counter tops ,cabinets and bath fixtures and replaced! Whew! man I was tired but made the deadline!

so I have a off day yesterday.....so I told the wife i'm putting up the detailing sign and get some other things done in the shop so while im putting up the sign had 2 people stop and talk about detailing thier vehicals.......made appointments to get done! Nice!

About 7pm yesterday i was in the shope enjoying a cold beverage and my ex-boss comes strolling in(now we haven't talked in almost a year) and says "you ready to come back to work?" as I studder a few choice words told him I wasn't working out of town NO more! He says no problem everything is close to home so looks like I'm back to work in two weeks.

Then He says I didn't know you were detailing....we've changed our logo a little and we are going to do partial wraps so all the trucks need prep( all exsisting lettering and such was hand painted on)so wash, clay, buff all old lettering and clean the inside You want them? Stupid me says yes....so I have

2 dump trucks ( small ones)
2 extended cab pick-ups
1 crew cab truck
2 regular cab trucks

all a package deal.........has to be done by friday next week! First one comes tommarow.....

sorry for the long post Guys just getting a little crazy! Thanks for Listening!

Congratulations!!! Sounds like you've gone from no work to more work than you can shake a stick at!!!

Congrats dad07 and look at the bright side, you can always built a good customer base doing part time detailing in case something happens in the future.

Yes Scott your right! That has had me thinking real hard! :props:

Wow. Sounds like you could use some help. It's good to hear you getting your life back on track.

Fantastic!

But what about your detail business sign - keep it, take it down or add "Weekends Only, By Appointment"?

Regards,
GEWB

congrats man. wish my luck would turn like that soon.

Congrats!

Given the current economic situation extra work may be a good thing.

Congrats!!! Make sure you don't over do it. Hire some help if needed. This week I did 4 cars and hope I can also get things rolling soon.

Hey Tim, great to hear your going back to work. Did he think you would be back for a while or just to do a job or two? If your like me, after working all week there's not much left for the weekend, (You know what I mean). Anyway glad your back to work. A good week at work beats a week at unemployment any time!!

I know your on a rant and it's a lot of work! But...you have work full time it seems and your keeping busy! In the end it all pays off! Congrats on getting back to work full time and getting some detailing business out of it as well!

Well, in this economy, I'd say it's better to have too much work than no work at all, especially if you have a family to look after. :props:

Mark, Looks like a few jobs....but the 2 he has in mind for me will take 14-18 months to complete......so if things keep rolling it will be long term again. I know what ya mean as weekends go geezz....was really getting things going in the detail part but bills have got to be payed!

Thanks Jason I'm glad in one aspect but dissapointed in another....I think the detailing will be my salvation!

Shane your right!!!!! good thing is my Children are grown and on there own. Altho Ive had 30 + children through my home( Because we were Foster Parents). Any ways.... Thanks !

:updated: Its been about a month since i posted this, so I wanted to let averyone know how thinggs are going!

the 2 week return ended up a month, but its cool...

The detailing has been good and steady( no correction work ) but that will come But I have enjoyed what I was getting.

I am counting the days to my return to work,I start a project on the 18th of April so I'm really looking forward to this!!!!!!

I had a Pre-construction meeting yesterday for this project and I did something I had not done in years......I took over the meeting and put my expectations on the line with everyone! Owners,Architect, and subs! (usually I just listen then go to work).A 30 min meeting turned into a 2hr meeting which is crazy for this small project.

To get to the point ,I feel like I'm starting over again soooooo I would say that being a Proud member of this forum, has given me that new found confindence that has been Lacking In my mind, with work and detailing.

I want to thank a lot of people for helping me open my eyes to a lot of things with detailing and LIFE in general, and there are so many of you folks out there that I Don't want to leave anybody out.

SO here it goes........Thanks to EVERYBODY who belongs and has belonged and who is about to belong! ( I hope I didnt leave any body out! )

sorry for the long post but thanks everyone you all are the best!

Tim

Congrats Tim! Looks like things are really working out for you. Cool... good luck!
