New Product - Optimum Opti-Coat 2.0

Chris, I'd like some clarification about the scratch resistance. Are there any videos showing testing of it? I have a GT-R I'm considering doing with it, but I need to be sure of the scratch resistance. Thanks.

I don't know of any videos, I just have the info Dr G gave me stating the hardness starts at 6-7 and can get to 9h when fully cured/dehydrated. I'm certain it can do the plastic lighter test, but then again I could lay down a thin layer of WD40 to prevent friction with plastic. I don't know if we will see an official video because so many other thing have priority right now. Maybe a user will post up something.

How long after application do you have to wait before the vehicle can be driven? the recommended cure time is 12 hours I believe but I was hoping the car could be driven shortly after the initial application without any ill effects

to be a little more specific, I was planning to use this at the finish of a headlight restoration only. Trying to get a handle on how long you must wait before taking it on the road. thanks...

OK, thanks for the response. One more thing I forgot to ask, the temps might be in the high 40's or low 50's when I do the coating. Will this affect the drying time? Is there anything I need to do differently due to cold temps?

We recommend application above 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Curing to potential hardness IS dependent on exposure to heat to fully dehydrated the carrier from the coating.

You can drive it, but don't expose it to rain or wash it or let chemicals get on it before it cures. The original version can be wet after only an hour, so 2.0 just needs a little more time.
 
How long before traditional sealants drop like a rock in price now that this is available? :joking:

Yes & Yes.
And also on Gelcoat. It will basically stop oxygen and contaminants from deteriorating the surface.

1. Yes if all oxidation is removed first
2. yes to a degree. if the paint is flaking, you will need to remove all loose flake and get it as perfect as you can...but it should at least slow deterioration especially from use of harsh cleaners of UV damage.

I'm applying Opti-coat to my truck very shortly. M205 followed by Optimum Power Clean @ 3:1 (spray & dwell) and a Dawn wash worked great to prep the surface.

How long is recommended before exposing the truck to rain? To a car wash?
 
Ok just applied it to my '09 regular cab Tacoma with painted topper/camper shell. Applying to all painted surfaces only I used just under 5cc of product. Should I be concerned I didn't use enough? I applied an X initially by putting two thin lines on the applicator for 1/2 the hood. After that I used a 2-3 extra drops a panel. This was with the blue applicator tip. The pad was a bit grabby and the product flashed within a minute or less other than the occasional heavy spot which I gave a light swipe with the applicator pad. You could see a haze after wiping it on.

Minimum of one hour or when it is no longer "tacky", don't touch too much...or in an obvious place, just in case.

Sounds like you did just fine. Most people over apply the first couple times. as long as you could see that it had been applied uniformly to the whole panel, you did good.

This product had already caught my attention for obvious reasons, but the faded plastics element may have officially sealed the deal (no pun intended). You wouldn't happen to have any pics of this would you?

I don't know the answer about heat tolerance. Yes you can apply it to calipers, but I haven't tested it personally...just make sure you clean them well and let it cure before driving too much (the heat will actually help this).

We offer it in a 20cc/ml syringe so that no matter the vehicle size, you will have enough. The most I have used on a single vehicle was on a Navigator and I used about 15ml, but I did the glass too.

I have lots of experience with the coating, but because I am running a business I always feel rushed to get the work done and forget to take pics. Your welcome, I'm glad it helps instead of adding to the confusion that some have.Im the MAN
