Questioning Peoples Expertise?!?!!?

I think the forums are outstanding for meeting fellow detailers, showcasing your work and also there a very valuable tool for learning and keeping up to date. One thing to remember is take what you want and leave the rest behind. . It will make your life easier.

Mornin ladies....how is everyone doing today. Sorry I'm late to the party :)

So I have been on here for a few months now and have realized that experience wise I am more than up to par with many members on here. Over the last month I have noticed a large amount of members answering questions that they have not experienced first hand..... and those answers are off key (from threads that were read) - even if by a minuet amount that is enough to give someone the wrong impression in the direction of even damaging vehicles.

So please...... only answer threads with personal experience guys!!!!!!!!!! Makes me wonder about the things that I did learn from this site months ago! Do I drop it all and start over?!?!?!?

Anthony,

When I first arrived on the scene (forums) I honestly didn't know what to think. So many ppl with many having different opinions then mine. There were points in time where I was even questioning myself

Upon further investigations, I found alot of the members who seemed to think they new so much more then me, actually had very little if any actual expierence in what they were talking about. It was so blatanaly obvious...

I've just come to the point now where unless I see someone posting something I know will do permanent damage, I just letum roll with it....I don't care no more...I'm not the detail forum police....I'll leave all that hashing out to you girls to figure out

I do challenge anyone who has ever questioned any response I have posted, to find me a thread you disagree with and prove otherwise. When giving advice, I only give what I know works

Hugs & Kisses,

Flash

I know what the OP means. I started a thread showing my home-made pad cleaner. It worked great for me with no damage to me, my DA, or pads. But some "expert" who had never used my pad cleaner said I was going to electrocute myself.
/sarcasm

We all know the OP is talking about his beloved "Drywash". If you think it's a bad idea but haven't used it, you are not allowed to say it's a bad idea.

b & b you should be living in missouri the show me state. i agee with you completely. i have made enough mistakes on my own without help.

By the way guys, whats IMO and IME? i always see it and never know what it stands for.

IMO means "In my opinion" IMHO means "In my honest opinion" Not 100% sure about IME, but I think it's "In my experience"

Well, while there are several great points here, I think I still have 1 more thing to add.

If you aren't willing to be called out when you give any advice, and have the entire internet/detailing/message board world rain on your parade - stay in the house.

Message boards are visited by thousands of people, and if you think that all of them are going to agree with you, like you, or even listen to you, you are wrong. The detailing boards are worse than any other "group" that I post in, but that's no problem for me; hence, I still visit the boards.

For every beginner that posts "What Pad/Polish/Polisher Combo do I need?" there is going to be SEVERAL different answers, with most being correct probably. If you aren't willing to be wrong, you have then come to the point of being unteachable, therefore, becoming ignorant.

The art of detailing is just that, an art. If detailing a finish simply boiled down to using this polish with that pad then apply a coat of this wax allot more people would be doing it.

There are so many variables that come into play and as my grandfather said; "there's more than one way to skin a cat".

We are all different and approach a situation somewhat differently. It doesn't mean we're wrong it simply means we discovered one particular way to solve "that" issue. Much of the learnings are through trial and error, or better put; cause and affect.

I'm not implying that some of the discussions here don't leave me scratching my head but part of this is learning and educating others in order to avoid those big mistakes.

I think Dalton, Dave, Barry, Jon, and David F. make good points and comments.

Oh, and some of you guys are very funny too. Flash and Tornado LOL

I thought IME meant in my estimation. Learn something new every day...

You can take your pick but I'd go with number 1...

  1. In My Experience
  2. Independent Medical Exterminator
  3. Indirect Mortality Estimation

You just got to love acronyms.........NOT!

Just one of the many reasons it's fun being in IT and supporting retail environments like I've done from time to time.

Can anyone guess what POS actually stands for?

I saw a Vibe that had the tag POS Vibe. I talked to the guy at the place we were at and asked why he wanted piece of sh*t vibe on his tag. He said he had never thought of that and it meant Positive Vibe!!! I think I ruined his day...LMFAO

IME Corey, it just means in my experience. However, that's just IME, so I can't say that I am right.
