Hi, I'm new to AG. Been spending more time trying to figure out the best way to care for my paint, especially with the salt/sand all over in the Minnesota winters.

I'm looking at getting a foam cannon to go with my pressure washer, which (along with the good folks at denalitrucks.net) brought me here.

It looks like there is a ton of good info on the forums here, and I'm sure it won't be long before I end up with a PC or similar :xyxthumbs:

Welcome! I'm from Monticello, MN

You know we (those from metro area) should try and go in on orders when possible to save on shipping (if we don't get free shipping of course). Maybe try products out together and split the cost and the product!

Why's that? Because of the salt?
Yes, Opti Coat is a urethane coating that will serve as a permanent barrier to salts, etc. You will need to get your polisher and a compound to remove it.

Welcome. Minnesota winters are horrible for a car & for people.

:thankyousign:

Thanks to all for the welcome. I've been handwaxing my vehicles for years (apparently significantly sub-optimally, if not outright wrong), and while it has certainly helped, I'd like to do better. I used a clay bar last year for the first time, and was amazed at the difference before and after the wax.

At this point, I'd like to do a better job with paint protection, and I'd like to get into some correction for some light scratches and the inevitable swirls. This is, of course, the point where I am over my head.

Lots of reading, watching and eventually questioning to go.

As I've been told, it is 90% process and 10% product, so clearly I've got a lot of learning to do.

Welcome! I'm in Minnesota, too (Red Wing). I'm afraid you won't be able to do much paint correction without a DA (unless you have a trained gorilla). Buy a Griots 6", some pads and Megs #105/#205/#7 (or Ultimate Polish; Ultimate Compound). I use BlackFire Wet Diamond and Danase Wet Glaze for LSPs. Remember, it's a process.

Jim
