Alright guys, I have been so slammed the past few days that the last thing on my mind was to worry about the sun. MISTAKE! I have water blisters all over the top of my head and on my forehead...... very painful. I need an Indiana Jones hat or a turban or something. What do you guys use?!?!?!?!

303AP it has an SPF 40 but really if you don't normally wear a hat get in the habit of rubbing on some "sport" sunscreen in the morning. The sport varieties usually don't run in your eyes. I'm bald and hate hats but in the summer I rub on sunscreen every morning.

Those look good...... why did I never get one of those in the military?!?!?!?

I love them, but we only get to wear them overseas. That is what sucks. They provide great sun protection. I never wore sunscreen in Iraq, and never got suburnt wearing it.

One of my guys today was saying I needed sunscreen. A big piece of me feels that sunscreen and/or lotion is the cause of skin cancer..... not the sun. Never heard of skin cancer being a problem way back in the day! Maybe its just me, but that is my last resort. But 99% of people will say otherwise lol!

Yep, gotta get one of those for sure...... and reinstate my camel pack :dblthumb2:

I am bald, but I dont wear a hat. I use 50 spf spray on sunscreen twice a day.

I wear 16x24 mf's wet with onr usually since that's my wash of choice, great smell and keeps me cool washing away in parking lots

Way back in the day did they really know about Melanoma, or did they just say you died of something else?
My wife died of melanoma she had 17 years prior that had metastasis to her brain that no one could have predicted and she never wore sunscreen. I've never heard of anyone getting cancer from lotion.

Sorry to hear about your wife there - well I officially feel like a complete jerk over a simple comment....... sun screen it is then?!?!?

A good friend of mine is a dermatologist, trust the sunscreen, it works. High SPF, the sports stuff is good as it doesn't run into your eyes.
Think of it like a wax for your skin. It reflects the bad UV rays from the sun and protects your 'paint' keeping it looking good for years to come. (Too much sun also causes an increase in wrinkles, sun spots, moles, etc.)

Well that seemed to stop the thread in its tracks.........

can't remember exactly as it's been so long since i took a tox class but there are many p's when it comes to cancers including skin:

predisposition (genetics, amount of melatonin in your skin, etc)

promotion (the exposure of cells to carcinogenic compounds that damage DNA)

progression (repeated exposures, time, and the body's ability to repair DNA damage)

Progression takes a long time (sometimes decades) so even if say we lost our ozone layer tomorrow and the intensity of UV were to triple, you wouldn't see higher incidents of skin cancer for years as it takes time for the damage to "progress".

In a nutshell, wear your sunscreen or a hat!

Suntan lotions used to be oil which only made it worse...think basting a roasting turkey. They had little protection.

The blocking type lotions used to be the pasty white cream. It takes years for the damage to appear.

There are suntan lotions and there are sunscreen products.

Get a canopy or wear a hat

Never used to like wearing a cap, thought they made me look goofy, then found it wasn't the cap that caused that, lol.

Think a booney hat is a good idea, might have to get one. Maybe AG will get one designed to go with the shirt!

I wear a Columbia Performance Fishing Gear Omni-Shade hat. I model I wear isn't made any more but they have a similar on. The one I have has a long neck shade, fully cover the ears, wide brim, mess ventilation near the top. Doesn't make a fashon statement but works great!
