Detailers of Faith

I'm not trying to start drama, but this is the perfect opportunity to ask the question i've been wondering about for quite some time for this forum.

Would a theoretical exclusive shout-out/group for morally corrupt atheists [sic] like myself (Yes...we DO exist in fox holes ^_^) go over well on this forum? Obviously it would not go over too well (or wouldnt be of importance) for a lot of members, but I'm wondering if the admins and Senior members would just ban people like me for existing. I've never seen the powers that be, oppose faith/political threads, but they always seem to be (or support) the same beliefs/opinions that admins/senior members hold as well, so no conflict.

Like I said, this is honestly a REAL question. No trolling. I've just been banned, and had quite a few friends banned from forums for sharing their religious beliefs (or lack thereof) in what seemed to be an open discussion about religion, just to be banned later with no warning, and no justification other than "you're an atheist, so you're banned." I hope this isnt the case here. Because of a few sigs I see from some members, this question has been scratch'in at my frontal lobe for quite some time, I just had no justification for asking it.

Thanks in advance for helping me with my question. I hope you dont feel like I am trying to high-jack your thread, I figured this is the only proper thread to ask such a question in.

Banning someone for just being an atheist would be silly. Same goes for banning a member who is christian, muslim or hindu. Heck, I suppose we should even let catholics in to

If you want to parade with a satanic signature, thats your business. God gave us all free will

Love in Christ,

Ah, I agree 100%, but I ask the question for a reason. It happens ALL the time, on a lot of different forums. I guess im scarred. Therefore, before becoming an unintended casualty, I ask the questions that need asking. I love this forum, dont wanna lose it on accident.

Well then lets stop jacking up Joe & Renny's thread

If you still have questions, I will be happy to discuss this subject via PM from this point forward

Deal?

Wow you live in San Antonio, my home town, but to answer your question from a Christian prospective, No Christian should be judging you, not to mention this is a country where your able to practice or not practice any relgion of your choice. And if you get banned for saying your an atheist I'll put in a good word for ya. I will leave you with this, because I was raised Catholic and got away from the church for many years, and until I was walking down the halls of this church after just getting back from overseas I met this guy Max Lucado, and at the time I had no idea who he was. We talked for about an hour just like we we're the best of friends. Later that day I saw a book and the author was Max, and after researching his name I found he was a world renowed author. I always thought most the "Christians" I ran across seemed to live their lives as hypocrites, going to church but not living their live's like that out of church. But after meeting Max and realizing even someone as famous as him will take time out of their busy days to talk to little ole me, I thought hmm I might give church another go and after a few years of going I was baptized again at 31 years old, after I realized no matter what I did in my past I could be saved. I truly believe God puts people in the path of others to help them through their lives. I'll be praying the same happens for you :)

At this time there's no rules against politics or religion topics on this forum, so as long as you don't break any forum rules then you could theoretically start a thread on any topic that complies with the forum rules.

I touched on this topic in another thread and I'll do so again here, I was in charge of bringing up MOL from scratch and I ran it with some great help from a lot of other people including Tim Lingor the Super Moderator (during those times), our Moderators and of course my co-workers and some key managers.

It was decided from the very beginning to lay down some ground rules just to avoid problems and to keep the focus on the topic of the discussion forum and that was and still is detailing cars.

Here's the rule we used, note rule #6

1. No personal attacks toward members or non-members will be tolerated.

2. No arguing with Moderators or Administrators.

3. You are welcome to disagree but you must be polite.

4. No bashing any company or their products. No bashing other people. If you can't say anything nice about someone, then don't say anything at all.

5. Forum Nicknames and Avatars must be family friendly, they cannot even hint towards anything raunchy, sleazy, sexual or inappropriate. When in doubt we will err on the side of caution and ask you to choose a different nickname. E-mail addresses cannot be used as a forum nickname.

6. No politics. Politics are a very important part of our culture and it's important that everyone be involved to the degree that they are compelled but not on this forum. There are hundreds, possibly thousands of political websites and political discussion forums and if you want to talk about politics then these other discussion forums is where you need to post your opinions, not here on MeguiarsOnline.com Also we will not allow forum nicknames or Avatars with any political implications. MOL is about discussing car care not politics.

7. Keep language "G Rated", this includes insinuations. If you wouldn't say it in front of your grandparents, your parents or your children, then you shouldn't probably be posting to the Meguiar's Online forum.

8. Only appropriate pictures suitable for all audiences will be allowed, this includes avatars. If the photo is questionable at all it will be deleted at our discretion without warning.

We didn't have any specific rules against discussing religion but all of the above rules if followed by the members and enforced by the moderators, nipped any problem in the bud quickly and pro-actively.

The result was an environment that everyone that was a regular member understood the forum decorum and any new members that were tempted to cause problems were quickly introduced to the forum rules and given the option to comply or encouraged to find a new forum to cause problems on.

I've been on the Internet since 1994, not before everyone but before most and one thing I learned from experience is the fastest way to start a Flame War is to start a thread on one of these 3 topics,

  • Politics
  • Religion
  • Car Wax
Yes, the third topic seems to start just as many flame wars as politics and religion.

So at this time, management has tried to keep this forum very open to a wide range of topics that the forum members of this community want to discus. The problem I've seen is no matter how well intentioned, threads on the topic or politics and religion sooner or later go negative and people get their feelings hurt.

My personal opinion is we should change the forum rules to officially state that the topics of politics and religion are not allowed. Period.

Why?

Simple put, because it causes more problems than the value it adds.

The other great reason is outlined in Rule 6 above and that's because there are hundreds, possibly thousands of political and religious websites and discussion forums where you can go to discuss these topics if you're that passionate about it.

So again, at this time if you want to start a thread and it's in keeping with the AG forum rules, then you have that privilege. Privileges are not rights and the Autogeek Online forum rules are liquid, that means they are subject to change at any time when the situation calls for change.

I've said this numerous times on this forum and I'll say it again, I wasn't hired to be a Moderator on this forum and it's not a part of my job duties. That said, I would much rather simply close this thread and any other political or religious thread if it even hints of going negative.

So with all the above said, if you don't want to join in and post something in keeping with the "topic" of this thread, then start your own thread for your own topic.

Thank you to everyone reading and considering posting after I hit the submit reply button.

:)

Why are so many people opposed to facebook? Just wondering...

For me personally Lisa. I just got lost in there. I couldn't navigate myself off my own page :o

Alot of ppl also seem to have a problem with sparking up old romances and destroying their marriages

I really think this Facebook group for detailers of (Christian) faith is a good idea. I hope you guys can carry the discussion of that topic on over there. Lately autogeek has turned into jesusgeek.
Don't get me wrong. I just think it's important to remind you that this is a forum accessed from all over the world and Christianity may not be the default religion. Visitors of this forum might be a little uncomfortable with this topic popping up as often as it does. I'm not asking you to hide your faith or not be proud of it, bit just keep in mind that not everyone shares your belief. Thank you for taking that into consideration.
Your brother in humanity,
Mark

^Right, if there was as many threads about Atheism as there on Christianity this place would not last long...

What are you guys talking about "All These Threads"?!?!?!?

I only recall this one and the prayer thread that was made today. If something like this offends you, just don't click on it. Its really just that simple

If you would like to make a satan worship thread knock yourselves out. It won't bother me. I sure wouldn't make rude comments as you both have

I haven't seen all these threads pop up, in fact they are rare. What wax to use or what soap is best pop up more than anything. If a person finds a thread on such topic that offends them, they are at will to simply move on. I'm not a fan of certain products and when I see a thread about them I simply ignore them. Do I think topics about religion or politics belong on a detailing forum? No. Does it happen? Yes. Traditionally I ignore them.

I just got in from a long (but fun day - did a Gallardo !!) of detailing. Lots of replies to this!! Many words of encouragement!! AWESOME!

This thread is an invite to the facebook page and nothing more. I wouldn't necessarily want to discuss Christianity on this forum because that isn't this forums purpose.

Keep in mind -ALL ARE WELCOME to the facebook page. Thank you to all that have joined already.

The comments we made were not rude, at least mine wasn't intended to be and I'm sure Tornado's wasn't either. The point I was making is that it seems Christianity is okay on this forum, but other faiths or lack of faiths might not be.

I agree. I was just hoping people would think of our foreign friends.

I really wasn't trying to be rude. My apologies to anyone that was offended.

I have no problem if you share you religous beliefs

I doubt other true christians would find it offensive either, as we are use to being ridiculed. I would think most all can appreciate the freedom of religion this country currentaly offers

Hey, if nothing else I appreciate you bumpin this thread :poke:

Please guide me to the threads that make you feel this way. Now if we were speaking of CG, Adam's, or Blackfire products then I could understand.
