HDTV Purchase advice needed

If you have a PS3 you already have a 3D Blu Ray Player.

Since I wear glasses I find it inconvenient to wear another set on top of my glass just so I can see 3D. I hear the new 3D TVs from Panny that allow 2D>3D conversions are amazing but I think i'll hold out till we can get a glasses free version (Yes i know Toshiba showed off glasses free 3D set at 2010 CES but the thing was only 19" and figures for a full 40+ incher was in the tens and thousands and yes I know Nintendo has the 3DS BUT I'm talking affordable 40+ inchs).

I also agree AT this time if you want the richest blacks, the whitest whites you can't go wrong with a Plasma. Not only that OLD Pioneer 9G Kuro's are still considered top dogs even tho they've been out of production since 2009. Panasonic bought out this tech form Pioneer when they decided to dissolved their Elite TV team and is now under the name NeoPDP tech.

Until OLED TVs are out for consumers use, Plasma is the way to go.

Lol I wasn't trying to insult you in any way. I agreed with all of it except gaming on a plasma, but I've never actually gamed on one myself, just going off the research I did on that point. I actually still use a Hitachi crt RPTV which is 1080i because only the top end plasmas can touch or beat it in picture quality (colors and black levels). I was looking 2 years ago and nearly jumped on a Kuro but saved a couple grand and spent $500 on my first professional ISF calibration and cleaning instead from a tech who specializes in the older non-LCD/plasma sets. It was like getting a brand new TV :xyxthumbs:

I have a Samsung LED in the main living room and quite happy with it. I am not a fan of 3D nor having to wear glasses and buy special players and more for a little bit of a unique experience.

Yeah I'm not really concerned with 3D either at this point since they require the glasses. Supposedly there is a technology that allows 3D without glasses but it's not ready for TV's yet. Ironically I actually now own a 3D blu-ray disc though I don't own a 3D tv, and my blu-ray player is not capable of playing 3D movies. It was the "super combo pack" of the Green Hornet that came with the DVD, blu-ray, 3D blu-ray because it was on sale for $25 vs. $40 and the other half wanted to give the DVD to her brother because they still have just a standard DVD player.

LOL I wasn't saying you flyinion when I said the post was insulting, I was talking about member XLNTShine response to Tyrod about not liking Samsung products.

Man your post sounds really insulting to me, but since you're not talking to me I guess Im the MAN

I did not intend the post to be insulting. I just think you need the facts when making a decision. In fairness, the next TV purchase I make I will do more homework and try to verify the comments made by other members saying that Samsung is crap. I don't like CRAP! I formed my opinions and decisions based on the information I had at the time. I am not saying I know everything there is to know about TV's, I just know how Samsung works and yes there are models that are CRAP!

I also took my stance on the LCD panels because I have experience in that industry. There may only be 3 manufactures but I am certain that they make panels to spec for the major brands.

Shoot look at Intel and AMD as a good example of how the components used in a product effect the quality of the final product. If you purchase and ACER with an Intel I7 and put that against a Top Tier PC from another manufacturer they both may utilize the same processor (Insert LCD Panel) but they can preform quite differently.

Just as the other poster said, if you surround something with crap components ultimately the product suffers. SO... I will do my homework when these LCD TV's die.

I know my way around a PCB! Now I must find the truth.

NO HARSH FEELINGS GUYS~! Just trying to help. Do your homework and make an informed decision based on what you know!!:xyxthumbs: I often research a product and end up going to a store to do some hands on research and next thing I know I am looking at something costing 3X what I planned on spending.

Yeah I'm not looking to get into a forum fight, just the way you where laying it out for him sounded like a middle management person would be telling to his sale floor.
BTW there is actually more then three LCD panel manufactures.

1 LCD TV, 1 LCD Monitor, 1 DLP TV, 1 Phone (LCD screen went bad). I'm an electronics tech so I need no explanation & I don't buy crap. I avoid Samsung products now like the plague.

Man, I was not attacking. I don't think many people know that these manufacturers produce SOO many different models with similar item numbers but they can be quite different!!!

Also... You said your a Tech. What seems to be the downfall with the products? Any items in particular? Controls, PCB, cold solder points, cheap manufacturing?

What brands do you feel are the best in the LCD market? Who is building the best LCD's right now.. open to any brands!

REI.... I did not look to check the fact posted by the other member! I don't want a fight either. I don't want to damage my pristine reputation!;) Just kidding. I am respectfully leaving this conversation before I offend anyone!! :bolt:

The best has got to be the Pioneer Kuro line. However, these TV's are discontinued since Pioneer stopped making them. I have a Pioneer plasma and its great, not the Kuro line however.

The next best would be Panasonic, from the countless reviews I have read.

I just bought a vizio 55in led tv, 240hz. It just came out in march and got great reviews from cnet. I paid $1300 for it and it blows my parents samsung away, and the toshiba LED i had for a couple of days. DOn't believe spending the most will get you the best. My parents tv was one of the top of the line ones at best buy, i believe it was around $2500. They wish they would of bought the vizio instead.

As another poster said: AVSforum.com

And I don't know where the SAMSUNG=CRAP came from, but I did copious amounts of research on AVS and other sites and Samsung Always came to the top, so I have one.

But I will agree that everyone will find a problem with something if they are looking for one.

Do the research and find the tv that best fits your room and your wallet. In case of a tv, bigger is usually better, and you likely will not regret getting the biggest you can afford. Even 65" looks small once you get use to it.

For KNJ, you need to figure out what technology you want then pick the brand and model. For picking the best technology, you need to look at what you want to do with the TV, and the viewing environment.

:iagree:

You can spend as much or as little as you want, and the value will be determined by how you will use the TV. I just got the Panny 3D and love it. The picture is absolutely amazing. I rarely watch anything in 3D, and yeah, I don't like the glasses at all, but the main reason I got it was for the 2D picture quality. The glasses & 3D Blu-Ray player all came as a bundle, so price wasn't too bad. Especially with Best Buy's 36 month no interest plan. Before this one I had a Sony Bravia, and there is a noticeable improvement. I also agree with the other posters about checking out other AV forums. A lot of knowledge on those. Good luck!

My neighbor just got a new Samsung UN55D8000 tv and it's one of the best HDTV's I have ever seen, and I have a Kuro.

panny plasma all the way.

put it this way...
people that know quality displays, buy plasma
people that 'think' they know quality displays buy LCD

Don't be fooled by all the BS gimmick -> LED, ultra thin, 240hz, AMP, motionflow.... they only equate to garbage that doesn't contribute to a quality picture

I your opinion.

I your opinion.
please.. go buy your POS LCD and think you bought a quality display. No sweat of my @ss. I am a Kuro snob and will likely not buy a new display for yrs..

I have watched numerous friends and family buy an LCD and get picture quality that is less than a plasma that cost 1/3 the price. I have a 46" panny plasma in my bedroom that cost 569 bucks.... it takes an LCD that costs 2000-3000 bucks to be just comparable in picture quality.

LCD doesn't last longer than plasma, the refresh BS is just that BS.... LED means nothing more than how it's back lit (flashlighting, brighter blacks, and high kelvin color). Manufacturers have gone away from local dimming for the most part on LCDs due to costs. It was basically the only thing LCD had going for it.... but oh, you say, LCD uses less power and are thinner.... big whoop-itty-do, my plasma costs me an extra buck a month and is 3/16" thicker.

You want a computer monitor (still images and text) definitely get yourself an LCD. You want a quality display for movies, games, and TV, get yourself a plasma

I your opinion.
I was thinking the same thing, I own a Kuro myself, great T.V., and I find nothing wrong with LCD TV's (I own 2 myself). Plasma fanboys are fanatics, as we can see. Thank god I'm not one :xyxthumbs: LCD technology sure has come a long way.

Personally I like LCD much better. I have had both plasma and LCD and the picture quality is great on both but the viewing angle in always better on most LCD and better on led. Vizio is the best tv bang for the buck. I have 3 1 is 8 years old and is still great. I think vizio is made with samsung parts. It's kinda the other company of samsung if I'm not mistaking but it definitely is no "3rd tier tv" that sales guy is a chump.

I just knew you where going to be up for a fight. Listen I really don't care. It's my opinion, if you don't like it, DON'T responded. Please take your high horse and your kuro and be a fanboy elsewhere.

That's odd the you find the viewing angle on LCD better, you sure it's not a plasma? Like a CRT, plasma has no viewing angle issues because of how the technology works. The TN type panels used in most LCD screens are the reason for viewing angle problems that LCD's get slammed for in all the big reviews. I know they've been improving that issue though.

Also I have an explanation for why the LCD panels from one manufacturer can vary wildly between model lines, and even in the same model in some cases. A couple years ago I bought a Samsung computer monitor that was reviewed as being extremely good and having very accurate color. Then after a few months people that were buying it started complaining about the monitor having a blue tinge to everything, or in some cases green.

Turns out, the initial reviews were done on monitors that Samsung produced the LCD panels in house. The problem ones were from two "generic" manufacturers that Samsung handed the specs to and said "make these" so they could save a bit of money on mfrg costs. Something in the creation or QC or something was different at those companies and causing the issues. You could actually look at a sticker on the back of the monitor and tell which panel you had in it.

vizio isn't a top tier brand.

personally I wouldn't buy samsung... way too many horror stories about failed displays and lack of customer service.

You are disillusion if you think LCD has a better viewing angle than plasma. You might as well try to convince me the world is flat
