Venting - You may ignore this!

Too bad that you're around a bunch of jerks. Believe me, from my experience at my full and part-time jobs and from what I hear from others your experience is the norm for just about everywhere in America. It's the new reality, sad to say. Respect for others is disappearing fast. I try to get my enjoyment and satisfaction in life OFF the job. Times are hard, and you have to swallow a lot of B.S. just to keep your head above water. Keep your chin up, and remember that there are a lot of good folks out here just like you.

I hear ya! It really does seem to be that way which is really sad. Another reason I've chose to start my own business. Eventually, I'm going to take this full time and be my own boss. Then I just get to deal with the taxes, head aches of running a business, irate customers (hopefully very rare but there is bound to be some), etc.

SeaJay, Since you have sales and Management experience, have you considered Outside Business to Business Sales? I did it for 15 years, get in with the right company and there is plenty $$ to be made, or Pharmaceutical Sales, Or a Account Manager for a company, just a thought.
 
Employeee morale is down everywhere. Everyone I know just about is ready to quit their jobs. To many bean counters. Sorry to hear your going through this too

I have looked into this and because I have no outside sales experience I haven't been able to find a job in that field. Especially pharmaceutical sales since they require a degree usually in biology or chemistry.

LOL I have never played the Powerball...I just think that it's a waste of money. But I can't win if I don't play right?! So maybe I'll pick one up. Could be my lucky night!!! Im the MAN

Based on what I've learned about you via AG Forum I think you are a stand-up guy.

Going to bat for your team is admirable and what stand up guys do. Unfortunately, as others have said there does not seem to be much demand for people that are decent, honest, respectful or that stand up for others nowadays. I still do it and have the black and blue marks to prove it. Here's how the world works today, I know of one individual who is a back stabbing SOB and they are now one of the Sr. VPs of the company. This person laid off 50 people so their bonus was higher one year. What a wonderful human being there. NOT!

Keep your head high and do the right thing. There are so darn few left.

Thanks Mike! I'd like to consider myself a stand up guy. I know plenty of people that have gotten ahead by stabbing others in the back. It's just not how I operate which I guess is my loss. But in the end I think it makes me a better person. I also speak my mind which is something that has gotten me into a lot of trouble in the past. I try not to at work since I know it will just get me into trouble. So, I've resorted to sitting in my cube with my headphones in and just doing my job. Not really socializing or speaking up. Just getting by...I have a feeling they are just looking for something to fire me about.

Either way I'm sticking it out for now. At least until my house sells and I can save up some money. Then it may be time to move south! At least that's my hope. I can't stand the cold snowy winters anymore! :nomore:

Well an update on this awful situation I'm in....

House has been on the market for a month...showings have slowed down but apparently we have a couple that are interested (according to my agent). So, maybe I'll have an offer soon...I can only hope!

My day job has gotten even worse...I'm honestly come to the point where I can't even bring myself to care at all about this job. Which is very unlike me at all. I tend to do everything to the best of my ability. But this place has run me down so much that I honestly just don't care.

It's sad...a year and half ago I had a great job and couldn't think about leaving. Now I'm ready to actually quit! My detailing business has been really busy lately and I have no doubt I could make it successful. But it's not guaranteed...

Well my office job has gone completely down hill over the past year. I really use to think that I had a great job with a great company. I work in an inside sales team which I use to be the supervisor of for 2 years. Last year after a long string of incidents within the division and my mentor and boss was let go for stupid reasons. So after going to managment expressing my thoughts and opinions. They basically told me to screw and deal with it. So I attempted to deal with it for 3 months...after that time I was fed up with it and decided to step down from my supervisory position. This was Sept 2010. A few months back I get my annual review and they slap me with a does not meet and no raise. This is all due to 2 months that the new supervisor had supervised me and I had 1 incident where I got into with a sales rep. Nothing big just a little argument. Well, because of this 1 incident they give me no raise and say I have attitude problems etc. So I fought this 1st to the manager, and explained to him in our conversation that I was not happy here. Where he then suggested I go talk to a shrink. So then I went to HR. Who basically did nothing and told me to deal with it and this is a new year!

I am still in the team and things have only gotten worse, between the new supervisor, manager, and the sales reps I work with. The people here just seem to think they are high and mighty because a lot of them have their degrees in engineering, masters degree in business, etc.

Great example is this morning I have one of my sales reps contact me to look up a water system for him and give him some more info. Even though he could do it himself, he asks me because he doesn't want to have to spend the 5 minutes to do it. So I go looking up the info and there isn't any that I can give him. I explain this to him and he comes back to me telling me I'm wrong and we have to have something. Well I've been doing this job for 6 years and I think I know what I"m doing better than most people here. So, I explained to him why we have no records etc. He still isn't happy and goes to my manager. So, long story short I just got reemed out for absolutely no reason because we have no record of something...

It's getting harder and harder for me to come into this office every day and I'm really considering leaving this place and taking my detail business full time. But then I have to think about winter, and what I would do then. Plus can I make enough to pay my bills?! If my house sells then I might be able to because I won't have a huge mortgage over my head..

OK sorry I'm done venting now. I just get so fed up with this place some days that I just want to walk away from it all!

I feel for you brother...I have beenwhere I am at in this dealership, watching it destroy itself from within, just cause talks of it being sold started 14 months ago. But some times if you can stick it out there is Light at the end of the tunnel (just hope it's not the train), In the end it did work out for me as when the new owners came in, I was given much kudos and a big promotion, I don't know where it stands for you, but I do get the feeling you know exactly what you want to do....take care and i wish you well in your endeavor.

IDK what direction to tell you to go. It seems to me everyone I talk to is fed up with their employment situation. Not sure that switching employers will resolve this issue

On your housing situation....if this person purchases your home, will you at least be able to break even? Lots of ppl are upside down and inside out right now. If you do sell, are you staying in the same city?

IDK what to tell you about doing this detailing thing full time. At least it is one way you will have more control of your destiny I suppose

It does seem as though everyone is fed up with their employers. I'm not looking to switch to another big company like this. I'd much rather run SeaJay's full time. Even if it's only 8 months out of the year. I can get a part time job plowing or something in the winter.

If I get the right price I will be able to walk away from my house without owing anything. This is the plan.

We are actually moving one town over. So, not too far away.
 
I was in a similar situation teh last few years I worked, I was going to retire in July of last year, but with the back-stabbing from my co-workers, and the lack of support from management (and the union), I pulled the plug in February.

I worked a total of 2 weeks last year, and called off one of those days for a possible snow storm. I came home in a worse mood every one of those 2 weeks, and the wife said if I didn't get out of there, I'd either have a heart attack or get fired when I blew up at the idiots. My last day there was the first time I smiled all day in at least 5 years.

Hang in there SeeJay, and keep looking. You're right about it being time to move on; if you dread getting up in the morning and going there, it isn't worth the stress. There are places out there that will appreciate your talents and work ethic, I hope you can find one.
 
Well turns out my company made the decision for me. I just got fired this morning but am eligible for unemployment.

So looks like SeaJay's will be going full time.
