2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee/ 2008 Honda Accord questions

Hey all,
Neq guy to this forum. I have been maintaining vehicles for a while now but i wouldn't call what i did detailing. However that is all going to change now.

I am less than 30 days from getting home from deployment overseas and I am about to take possesion of my brand new 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee in Dark Charcoal Pearl Paint. I intend to keep this thing looking like it was painted yesterday, everyday. With that in mind I am about to seriously upgrade my car care arsenal. Upon doing this I am going to have to maintain my wifes car to an almost equal standard.

With all that in mind I am looking for suggestions on what I intend to purchase.

I am ready to pull the trigger on the following:

PC 7424XP
5.5" LC CCS: 2xred, 2xwhite
Wolfgang Paint Polish Enhancer
Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant

That will be the arsenal for my vehicle.

On top of that I intend to get Meguiars 105/205 to begin to take back what is left of my wifes paint. It has endured two New England winters and costal Georgia elements. This will be a challenge.

I allready have soap/clay etc. and I am not made of money, so i figured that I would spend it on quality pads and a good Sealant. However I wanted to hear form the collective since this higher end detailing is new to me.

Final question, should i attempt to use a carnuba over the DGPS or just use multiple coats?

Depending on your wife's paint condition you might want to get some WG Total Swirl Remover and a couple orange pads as well. This will remove medium swirling that might be present after a couple of years on the road.

Even though your Jeep is brand new... that doesn't mean it won't need a little correction work but lets cross our fingers that it won't. The above will Paint Polish Enhancer will prep perfect paint perfectly for application of the Deep Gloss Pant Sealant but so would the Wolfgang Finishing Glaze and both are very easy to work with and wipe-off.


Let's hope the paint on your brand new Jeep is in perfect condition, if you haven't already, please tell the Dealership NOT to touch the Jeep, don't wash it, don't wax it, leave it alone.

Thanks for the responses.
I have spoken with the dealership and told them not to do anything more than give it a wash. I have heard horror stories of dealers drilling the front bumper to put a plate holder on.

So I went with the PC7424, 2 orange, 2 white, 2 red pads, 5.5" on all. In the future i will transition to using 4" on the smaller portions and around curves/hard lines.
Went with all WG products. Total swirl remover, finishing glaze, DGPS, and Instant detail spray(for final wipe and upkeep). Also got a sample of the Pinnacle Liquid Souveran.

My plans of attack are:

2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee
1. Hand Wash
2.Clay
3.Finishing Glaze, with the white LC CCS
4. DGPS, with red LC CCS
5. Let cure for 12+ hrs
6. DGPS by hand(will this make a difference or should i just go with the PC). Maybe follow this with Pinnacle Liquid Souveran after the cure
7. Final wipe with WD instand detail spray

2008 Honda Accord
1.wash by hand
2. Clay
3. Swirl remover w/ LC CCS Orang
4. Finishing Glaze w/ LC White
5. DGPS W/ Red


Now I also might use the Pinnacle Liquid Souveran on top of the second coat of DGPS to see if it gives it any extra depth, but i feel like doing that on top of two coats might be overkill.


Following these treatments I intend to maintain these finishes by washing once a week(or as needed), applying a carnuba once a month(or as needed), and every 4 months applying DGPS.
Now when I appply carnuba I plan on hand washing, claying, then waxing.
When i apply DGPS I plan on handwashing, claying, and using swirl remover or finsihing glaze depending upon condition of paint. If finishing glaze is used is that enough to remove the old product?

Drilling holes for bumpers, attaching logos to rear trunk lid, license plate frame advertising, the list goes on. If it's not too late, call them back and tell don't even bother washing it. :nomore:

Sounds like you're on track. The 4" pads come in handy, it's one of those things were when you use it once, you wonder how you ever detailed without them. You will find that the 4" pads will be very useful on both your Jeep and Honda as they both have a good amount of body lines, lips, dips, and so on.

1. Two bucket method, be sure to rinse frequently and wash from the top down.

2. Since both vehicles are relatively new, I'd recommend the Pinnacle Ultra Poly Clay. It's a finer grade of clay that's ideal for newer vehicles and/or well maintained vehicles.

4. The trick with the Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant is to apply it thin, thin, thin! For best results, let it dry to a haze for about 45 minutes to an hour before removal.

6. If you would like to add an additional coat, apply it by machine. :buffing:

7. Be sure to use a plush, soft microfiber towel on your newly polished and protected vehicle.

1. Same as earlier, two bucket method, rinse mitt frequently, wash from the top down.

2. I'd still go with the Pinnacle Ultra Poly Clay for this application too.

3. Great product/pad combo. Use speed 5-6 with moderate pressure and be sure to keep the pad flat and make sure it's rotating. Prime the pad first with the product and then all it takes is a couple pea sized drops.

4. Speed 4-5, a little less pressure than before, same amount of product.

5. Thin, thin, thin!

I would go with one coat of the Wolfgang DGPS, and then one coat of the Liquid Souveran. That will give you the protection and shine.

You might actually find that washing once a week will not be necessary. Maybe once every 2 or 3 weeks, tops. To remove the old sealant/wax prior to applying another coat, I would recommend the Wolfgang Paintwork Polish Enhancer.

Ok, I have a few more questions.

1. I plan on installing venture shield clear paint protection on the hood, bumper, fenders, and mirrors of the 2011 Jeep. From what I understand this should be done before I seal. If this is so, should i use the WG Finishing glaze prior to installing? Or should I simply use a wash that removes wax/sealant, then clay then install the bra?

2. After installing the paint protection I intend to car for it as if it were normal paint. I intend to seal over it with the WG DGPS. Are there any problems with that?

3. I also intend to tint my tail lights myself. Whether you are for that or not i have a question about finishing that process. After applying my final clear coat i will use 1000, 1500, 2000 grit sand paper to wet sand. Then polish and seal. Will the WG TSR and an orange pad be sufficient to remove the 2K sanding marks or should I pick up some 105? Since this is a plastic part are there any other considerations, it will be clear coated so I planned on treating it the same way i will baby all my other paint. WG TSR, FG, and DGPS.

4. I also plan on powder coating my OEM wheels. I understand powder coating is a pretty durable product, but are there special considerations when dealing with cleaning a powder coated wheel?

Thanks again for everyone's help, I am glad i found this knowledgeable community. My new Jeep should be getting delivered today, hopefully my wife sends me some pics that I can post up and determine the condition of the paint. Dealer assured me that they did not touch a machine to it "just a wash and a full tank of gas", we will see.
