I'm having the same dilemma here as many others--I am trying to decide which DA to purchase. I am looking to buy either the tried and true PC 7424XP or the new Griot's RO. I am an enthusiast and only detail my own cars. I mainly want it for some very light swirl correction and wax/sealant application. For anything major I plan on going back to a pro.

I currently own an older Griot's machine that was given to me as a gift, and I am very unhappy with it. The pad barely spins (when it spins at all) even with no pressure applied at speed 6. I'm not sure whether or not I want to try another Griot's machine (even with all of the great reviews), as the first one has really left a bad taste in my mouth. That being said, I still think they are a great company and their customer service is top notch.

The Porter Cable seems to be the standard and a real work horse, but I see a lot of people opting for the newer machines. I have done tons of research at this point and there seem to be many proponents for each machine. Now that I think about it, I have yet to see any negative reviews of any machine. How does one make a decision?

Sounds like the Griot's your currently have is the first one they introduced which was useless for correction work.

The current model is like a safe version of a rotary buffer, more power than the PC and the Megs unit.

Too bad you missed our live feed of the class we had last weekend you could have seen ALL the polishers in action.

:)

You are not going to go wrong with any of these machines. You just have to step up and decide.

I have both pc and GG and I prefer the Groits. More power and a great warranty.

I can't praise the griots garage DA enough! I love it and the way I see it, it is a great DA for a beginner and there is still room to grow into it..the best DA IMO

I haven't used the Griots but I do have the PC.

The PC is very well built and can honestly do some pretty darn good correcting. The only complaint I have on the machine is that I wish it were longer. I always feel cramped when I use it. Not really a big deal but just an honest complaint.

You can't go wrong with either of them. If you were considering the Flex, I would suggest you first get either the GG or the PC because you can use the 4" pads with them. The Flex you cannot.

I would stick to the GG or PC, build your pad and product resources and then step up to the Flex.

Oh yeah, Griots has free shipping all spring as well. AG will match this.

Just a friendly tip that may help sway your decision.

I would assume a 5.5" backing plate is preferred for the PC, but what about the Griot's since it has more power?

@dad07 - Do you find either one more comfortable to use than the other?

Aaargh! The sale ends today too!

I'd say it is pretty useless for much of anything.

Yeah, I wish I had been able to see it. I was hoping to sign up for the Polishing 101 class, but I'm going to just be getting back into town that day. :(

not a pro but a weekender

you would want a 5inch backing plate. no such thing as a 5.5.

The Griots will do fine with what you use but I suggest you go with a 5.5 pads.

Sales 15% does not apply to machine polishers:(

Looking at these machines is like picking between a Chevy or Ford. They both will get you to work and back. LOL. Since you will not be doing this for a living you might let price make your decision. Scan the forums for sales , used machines , craigslist or pawn shops. I have a porter cable, megs v2 and the GG machine and all of them will do the job. Good luck with your search and purchase.

Get the Griots, lifetime warranty and has the most power, other then the flex.

Sorry for the late reply but both machines are very good machines and both are very easy to use.

A 5 in backing plate is suggested for both machines although the groits can handle the larger pads better than the pc.

My groits machine is set up for 5.5 pads and my Pc is set up for 4inch pads for those hard to reach places. Also I use my pc to apply waxes and sealants.

My pad of choice right now is Lc Hydro-tech low profile pads. hope this helps you in making your decision.
