After detailing for many years I finally learned to use less product and I do not need to make as many passess. This has helped go faster and keep my sanity. I've also perfected going around trim and the badges without taping. How about you?

How different aircraft detailing is from auto detailing. Starting my first one tomorrow :)

Never give a quote without a thourough inspection.

I learnt to :

- Use a rotary polisher properly and safely(with a rotary, everything is so fast its unbelievable!!! I can compound in like 2-3 passes!)

- Wetsand and remove orange peel. (Thanks a lot to Mike for his great help!)

- use less product(This is the ultimate thing!! When you cut down on literally everything, it all becomes so easy. Like thin sealant/wax layers = easy removal + less product wastage. Thin coat of tyre protectant = less slings, less product wastage and great finish on the sidewalls)

- acknowledge the role of hand polishing in a detail!

- mask the trim properly before a thorough compounding and polishing job.(+ sometimes I use a surgical mask to avoid M105 powder inhalation! :D)

I am a slow learner
But i have learned a lot from this forum
Thanks all..

The single biggest lesson I've learned to date is, you never stop learning!!!

I do it as a hobby and I found out just how much you can spend in products. So far few hundred bucks including G110v2. Who said this hobby is cheap? LOL

At least its a hobby that can pay for itself :cruisin:

That Opti Coat is saving me tons of time and money. Since applying I just wash with either ONR or a gloss enhancing shampoo and that's all the maintenance I do. No more wheel and glass cleaners either. I may spritz on some Opti Clean waterless wash between washes. Dr G really has changed my life between ONR and Opti Coat I now have time to do other things and can literally throw out most if all the car products I've accumulated over the years.

find what works for you,not the other guy- i personally have a easier time with smat as oposed to diminishing and whatever product you get there is usually a learning curve to it

Never get over confident while using a rotary polisher.

I read all your guides on rotary polishing and I totally agree with the over-confident part!

I operate the rotary with a tad bit of fear!!! Analyzing the paint after just 1 pass and never overdoing it!

Thanks a lot!:dblthumb2:

And with the dynabrade attachment, I can even finish with the rotary polisher ;)

biggest thing i learned is use a microfiber waffle weave towel not a bath towel!!!! i was very ignorant before finding these forums...my car was SWIRL CITY!! thanks autogeek for everything you've taught me

I think that my single biggest lesson is always be open minded to new products and give them a fair chance.

What I've learned is just how much paint products have changed since I was detailing cars back in the 80's. Back then we either used DRX55 or 45, liquid ebony and a 15lb. alloy bodied Milwukee. Mequires was just becoming popular in my area as I was ending my detailing career after 7 years of dealing with terrible new Pontiac paint things were getting better but nothing like they are now. When I stumbled upon the site a month or so ago I though I had a pretty good idea on cleaning cars but holy sh#t is there stuff out there now!

Need to take a rest after full detail on 3 panels... d*mn can't fight aging..

Oh yeah and second lesson learned... $399 for an LSP is too expensive!!!!!
