How does one know which counterweight to use? Does it have to do with the size of the pad?

Use the one that came with it. You only need to switch if you use the wet sanding disk. It's in the user's manual.

Thank you HeavvMetal for answering my question directly. It greatly helps as I did not see an owner's manual when the product came and I did read the manual online and was still a bit confused.
And jbgrant, I asked a simple question which required a simple answer. I don't understand how this bothers you. If the question agitates you then you don't need to answer.

so will I be fine using the 5" that came with it for the 6.5" LC pads of should I get the 6" counter balance. There is contentions that it is a must and that it is not needed. I hear that it helps smooth it out with the bigger conterbalance.....Please Help???!

You don't need to change the counter weight. What will help is change to a 5" bp and use 5.5" pads.

Please use the search feature!

Thanks.

Why bother posting this? This is a very good question that the OP asks. If you don't want to offer a new member help then simply just don't post.

THANKS

To the OP. I have never used any other weight besides the one that came on the machine and I have used both 6.5 and 5.5 inch pads with no issues. As someone above has stated, you will find that the 5.5 inch pads do work better for correction.

What if ur using the 4 inch pad? with the 3.5inch back plate
Do u still need the counter weight?

Unfortunately mine came in the package i bought on ag. Sooo now to get the 6" counter weight or not???

So either ur running 5.5 or 4 inch pad, u dont change the weight and just keep it the same?

alright thanks.... i always took the weight off when im using a 4 inch pad.... since the weight said only use it with 5.5 pads lol

So I guess I'm not changing it I will try to get 5.5" next time but have to get thru these 10 pads first....

The size on the counterweight is a bit misleading, it was designed for sanding.

The counterweight size, is depending on the weight.

This is from PC.

:iagree:

A loaded 5" pad on a 5" BP exceeds the weight for a 6" CW...
