Opti-coat 2.0 question...

So here is my question i have been having about opti-coat 2.0 before i purchase it. Lets say i perfectly prep the paint and everything for the application of opti-coat. Onced its applied an cured how long can i expect this to last on the paint? Maintaining it with a wash every week and lets say a spray wax after the wash. Idealy for how long can i expect this to last on the paint? This is the question ive been having before putting this item in my cart.
 
a long long time. It's permanent. Must be abraded off. With that said, who knows?
 
Too many factors like garage, weather, etc. but Optimum guarantees 5 years I think.
 
Its for a daily driver that sits outside 24/7.
 
Spray wax after the wash will not be necessary, and may prevent the coating from shedding dirt/water as well.
 
I think i heard Dr. G say in a video that opti coat can be topped with anything for a desired look. Maybe chris@optimum can chime and and confirm on this.
 
OCW might not be necessary after a wash, but it will add slickness to the paint surface that isn't there after a standard Opti-Coat application. I've done many OC applications lately and all have been finished with Poli-Seal and then OCW for a superb finish.

I've had no reports of the above diminishing OC's ability to shed dirt/water etc. Most clients have rung back, but only to report how good the finish is and how easy the vehicle is to clean.

Try it, you might be surprised.

Sorry but whats OCW?
 
Is it better to top it off with OCW or can i put other spray waxes such as aquawax?
 
I haven't seen any issues using DG Aquawax on OC- I've used 'em both (OCW) - I've heard it's just good to stay in the same family of products

Im sure it is, but i dont see how DG aquawax might have an impact on OC?
 
I don't either, It works, or at least for me....
I've put OCW on OC &
I've put DGAW on OC, both work great
 
OC will not "fall off" with time. You have to remove it by compound or aggressive polish. You can use AIO or finishing polishes when it needs freshening up. OCW or any topper for that matter is not necessary. By not necessary, I mean that it will not make OC last longer or perform better or even look much different. Those who add a topper seem to be the wax guys who like the feel of a waxed finish.

Got it! i am one of those guys who love the depth of wax. Thanks for the input Chris! opti-coat will sure go on my cart now!

Well I would describe it as those who would like to maintain the look and feel of a Optimum Opti-Seal/Optimum Car Wax look and feel.

I don't rate that as a "waxed finish" but as a perfection finish.

I know you don't like it Chris, but perhaps you too should try it.

I didn't mean to speak for you, I was only assuming the slick feel of wax was the reason. I have tried wax, optiseal, and instant detailed on opticoat but didn't see an improvement on my specific paint. Opticoat doesn't allow products to bond well, so for me it defeats the point of applying a maintenance free coating and is a waste of the toppers...IMO. But I know the look isnt enough for some and they like to feel the finish so to each their own. Some waxes can attract dust, too so that's another reason to not top. You also have the option of polishing opticoat after it cures to make it feel a bit more slick and level. There are many ways to skin a cat, I can only make recommendations while the final decision is in the hands of the end user. Topping will not cause any problems so it doesn't matter if you choose to.

I thought not to start another thread on questions regarding the Opti-Coat 2.0. Would be great if my questions could be answered.

1.) How will Opti-Coat 2.0 affects the "Surface Energy" for adhesive products? For example, 3M Automotive Double Sided Tapes?

My understanding is that the anything will not bond well with the coat, and therefore, will even these kind of tapes will not stick to the surface? Or require a primer to suit, just like using it for low surface energy material such as nylon. (i.e. exterior plastic car parts)

I'm planning to install chrome exterior parts as well as a rear spoiler which is installed by double sided tapes. I'm worried if I coat the surface, they will fall off eventually.

2) Can I use the coat on plastic wheel covers? Not the actual rim?

3) Can I also coat my chrome plated exterior ABS parts? My weathershield visor?

well as a detailer I would not use this. If it lasts 5 years and know wax needed.what is there left to do for them.As a owner of the car this is good for you . Just not something I will be selling to my cust.

Obviously, I'm using it for my own car only. (and perhaps help a few friends with their cars for a bit of "off the record" cash) heh

Anyway, I'm preparing to do the coating this Sunday, so would love to know the answers to my questions pretty soon. Thx
