About to give up on m105

I don't care for M105 either. I work under a carport in the hot Dallas, TX weather and like said above, this stuff dries like concrete in a matter of a few seconds.

You say it works best on a wool pad with a rotary. Since I don't have a rotary and don't know how to use one, is it possible to use a wool pad on a Flex 3401? Has that been done before and how did it work?

Try Meg Ultimate Compound. It is OTC. It is CHEAP (unless you are buying by the gallon). It is VERY GOOD. It does not dry to a nasty residue like your 105. It dusts MUCH less. You will be able to turn up the speed to get similar cutting while producing about the same heat. All while leaving a finish that's much closer to LSP ready. Sure, it's not as aggressive, but boy is it nice to work with. Easy to find for $7-10.
 
Before I start using 105 I put a couple of drips of mineral oil on the pad. It keeps the 105 workable for a longer time and it seems to prevent all or most of the dusting. If it's a hot day and it starts to dry or cake I clean the pad and put a few more drops of mineral oil on it and start again.
 
im using a rotary the flex pe 14-2 its about 60 degrees today and after hrs of frustration and trying everyone help i give up on 105 im sure its good in certain situation but when ur trying to make money and all you do is waste time trying to figure something out your losing money in the process. so bye bye 105
 
When I use #105, I spray/mist the pad FIRST with #34 Final Inspection, then prime the pad. Seems like it works much longer and removes so much easier. I'm sure I lose some cut, but that's OK with me. The new UC and UP works super, as mentioned.

I'm not saying it IS bad, but there has been lots of talk about this causing paint to swell, and swirls not getting fully removed.

IMO I would rather use the product as intended, but again, thats just me.
 
I love 105!!! Look at any of my write ups over the past 5 years or so and every car I polished was with 105. I never use it with foam. Foam and 105 is a waste of time. Wool or MF only.

Well that is quite a bold statement. I have had great success with Cyan, Yellow, and Orange pads with M105. No reason to jump to the most aggressive pads first. I have worked on plenty of cars with Cyan and M105 and they finish almost LSP ready.

If it works for you rock it. If a finish will not benefit from wool /MF-105 then there are other products that will do the trick with no dust. Why bother with 105 and foam?

None really, go for either surbuf pads or the Meg's MF pads. Some like the LC Purple Foam Wool, but I've never had much luck with them.

I agree. :props: We do use wool on DAs for polishing aluminum and some very hard epoxy finishes but not for automotive finishes.

Wool on a DA works very well on fiberglass, but you need a powerful DA. The porter cable XP does not really have enough juice to do the job efficiently with wool on gelcoat.

Yea, most of their products smell pretty good, but they really need to work on the taste aspect. Little gritty and bitter tasting...
