PO85RD and Opti-Coat 2.0

Bill, I have some clear coat failure that looks a lot like yours. Did you choose the OC because you thought it was the best way to preserve it as best possible? Or how are you trying to prolong the failure?

Great pics by the way. :)

Thanks! I am using OC because I believe it to be the best way to preserve it as possible. I consulted with CEE DOG after he tested it on a car with full blown failure (flaking off) and it pretty much stopped it dead.

Opti-Coat vs Summer Bugs Update:

Had to drive a couple of hours late at night, and I seemed to fatally injure about every large bug within a few acre radius of the highway.

Not having enough time to do a proper job cleaning the bug guts off, and not having any PB Bug Squash around :nomore: I ran it through the touch less wash (hey it's opti-coated now) as the best alternative.

Here are the after results from the cheapest wash selection (there was no dry cycle, I just hopped on the interstate for about 5 miles on my way home and all the water flew off).

It did a fantastic job releasing all of those nasty bugs, if I had a pressure washer, it would have done the same job letting them just slide off

I should probably update with some pictures but yes none of the flaking has continued. In locations where there was flaking it has not continued whatsoever after a few months. However I should clarify that in places where there was no flaking but the paint was obviously about to fail I can see the signs (especially when the car is wet) that it all wants to come off. So my conclusion is it will stop flaking areas from spreading or I should say slow since I'm sure it will start again at some point. As far as areas that haven't started flaking yet it can't solve the problem because the problem is a loss of bond between the clear coat and color coat. However, I think it will slow it just the smallest amount with its UV protection. Mostly though, the damage has been done when you can see the 2 layers wanting to seperate.

Post Opti-Coat life: just wash & hit with Optimum Instant Detailer between washes. Took the Camaro to a local car show last week...got a lot of compliments for best finish (although I didn't have enough after-market bling to win a trophy...maybe when I get to one with a "factory original" class)...so those who think that Opti Coat is just for daily drivers...think again.

My car really stood out in the crowd...and to think there is absolutely NO wax whatsoever on the car...just like I said...I just wash and then hit it with Optimum Instant Detailer if I want to add some gloss and wow to the paint.

I use Optimum Car Wash for conventional washing, and ONR for winter and when I just don't want to drag the hose out.

Excellent write-up and pictures Bill! :dblthumb2:

I'm with Porsche Pilot, a class on car photography would be an awesome addition to Detail Fest :).

I agree!! Excellent idea and nobody could do a better job of teaching this class than Bill.

Sounds like fun, we'll see what we can make happen.

For the folks that can't make the 2012 Fest....Could a video of your training session(s) be made available? I'd make a donation towards making that happen. :)

Nice write-up/review Bill. More and more success stories (such as yours and Silverfox's, as excerpted and listed below) can only help but flame the fires, of my desires, to do the same! :D
