I've had this stuff sitting around for a while now and never taken the extra time to try it out. My car's a daily driver and I obsess over keeping it clean and shiny. For the past couple years I've been using the same bottle of Griot's Paint Sealant and have been happy with the car's appearance using that as LSP.

Yesterday I decided to give the Griot's Best of Show Carnauba a shot and see if the paint would look that next step better than it already does using the sealant. I first put down a new coat of sealant, then went on to the carnauba.

First off, I have to say that I hated using this product. I used a Griot's red pad on a DA and applied it very thin, but it was just impossible to remove without resorting to spraying QD on it to moisten it up after it had dried to a haze. I experimented using various speeds on the polisher, light and heavy pressure, etc and the carnauba was horribly difficult to remove no matter the method of application. The paint was properly washed/clayed/polished prior, too.

After completing half of the car I decided to call it quits as I really felt there was no discernible difference in appearance versus the half of the car that had only been coated with the sealant. Below are a couple quick pictures this morning before driving to work. The driver's side is the one with Best of Show on it.

Can anyone see a difference that I'm missing?

Any tips on successfully using the Best of Show carnauba that will keep me from tossing it out?

I have Best of Show and like it. I also have Collinite 845 and, of course, it has a reputation for being a bear to remove but I didn't have too much difficulty removing either. But I did cheat a couple of times and used QD because I initially used too much.

I use Best of Show and haven't experienced any problems unless I either applied it too thick or in too high a humidity, or both. Once I learned that, it's been no problem in applying and gives a great finish...better than what I have been seeing prior using another brand.

Those problems of too thick or high humidity aren't exclusive to Best of Show...many carnauba waxes will do that. That's not an indication of poor or good quality...just the nature of many carnaubas depending on their blending.

If Best of Show doesn't do it for you, there's lots of alternatives. I've been quite happy using Best of Show.

Never tried it but I looked at the pic's first and thought the drivers side was giving me more "POP" then I read your comments. Not a huge diff but yeah I would notice it.

I found with the 845 that what I thought of as "thin" and what it wants as "thin" is like Shaq to Kobe in differences.

From the pics, the driver side does look better. It could just be the difference in lighting and angle tho.

I thought it did at first, but then I scrolled further down the page so that the passenger side pic was on the same spot as where I viewed the driver's side pic and they looked the same. Either way, in person I'm not seeing any difference. Just a little disappointing.

Well I am running a 5870 card and a expensive screen and I can see it.
At 1900x1200 res its all there and no matter how I flip it it still looks better to me on the drivers side.

Ok I just looked at this thread on my ipad 2 and I still can see the diff although it is not as noticeable on the ipad.

I do not put a carnuba-based wax over a sealant ('layering').

I think I understand your wanting to layer, but you previously stated:

"For the past couple years I've been using the same bottle of Griot's Paint Sealant and have been happy with the car's appearance using that as LSP".

I honestly believe if you would strip the sealant and again prep your vehicle for a new LSP (Griot's BOS), you would have better results.

Just my way of thinking. :)

^^^Interesting thought. Last I spoke with a rep at Griots they said layering the BOS over the sealant works well. I think I'll strip down a panel tonight and go with BOS only and see how it looks.

Hope it works!

Have you seen the BOS how-to videos on Griot's web site? They're interesting and may be of some help.
