Just out of curiosity how many of you guys on here are professional detailers vs average Joe's, like myself, that detail as a hobby (mine and my fiance's car). Anyone in the MD/DC/VA area?

I do it as a hobby, but do co-workers cars sometimes also, I am in the MD area

I live in Northern VA. I do it professionally, but only part time.

I just do my own, and family/friends if asked. If I had a better place to do it, and was faster ...

A hobbyist to the nth degree with an obsession for perfection! :dblthumb2:

I leave no stone unturned and no product untested! :props:

I do about 5 to 6 cars a month for family and friends. :buffing:

guess i am a hybrid. now that i am retired i took my lifelong obsession and opened a business professionally. though with what i charge its very small time. about 12-15 cars a month.

Im in the same boat as you although the majority of my prducts are Meguiars. I have a sickness for a beautiful car. And I seem to get more customers that stop by and ask what im doing when I am using the D/A on the car.

I'm not a pro, but I ain't no average Joe either :dblthumb2:

I consider myself a Practicing Pro... Kinda like a Dr. as there is always something to learn and you can perfect over time but there will always be anomilys that come up so you will have to learn how to handle these...

That's a damn good way to put it!! :dblthumb2:

I am not your average Joe!! :props:

I am like a skilled surgeon without a license...

No pro.... but no average Joe either. I started out doing just mine/wife's vehicles along with the parents when they visit. However, word gets around and now I have people bringing me vehicles. I did a very bad 2006 black Chrysler 300 on Monday as I'm on vacation this week... I made some good money but I told another guy to contact me after 1 Aug and I'll do his Impala. I'm on vacation now and have stuff to do around the house first.

Nice to see the replies. I've recently become very obssessed with car cleaning/detailing. I guess I'll consider myself alittle past average Joe..but no where near alot of you guys. I just did my second detailing job, first one on my fairly new Acura TSX. I will be posting some before and after shots here soon. I did the job at my fiance's house. Took me about a week to complete. I'm sure I'll definitely learn alot of tips and tricks from this forum.

Joe; but my goal is to produce pro-caliber work. I don't want to do detailing for a living, but I would like to eventually be known as a great detailer.

Weekend Warrior here in Detroit! I'm quickly becoming ocd with the finding of AG.
