Your input PLEASE! (For your benefit)

Hi guys, I would like to know what size monitor you guys are using. The reason I ask is I always take my pictures for my reviews at 480x640 so that people with 15" monitors can see the picture (Thanks to Mike P) without having to scroll to the left and right. I would love to use larger pictures and when looking at Bill's review yesterday it brought this up in my mind again. For me I'm usually on a 23" monitor except when on the ipad so I like the big pics but would like the input from the rest of you. If a sufficient majority (like (90%) of people have the larger monitors maybe I will switch back to larger pictures.

Also, feel free to voice your opinions on picture sizes in posts in general.

Thanks for your input

15" here Corey :surrender:

This is 800 pixels wide...

Post #3 in the below thread touches on the topic of picture width when working on discussion forums...

How-to work with pictures on discussion forums

:)

Thats the perfect size for me ^ nice pic Mike :props:

I personally find that expanding the number of posts per page to 30, disabling the picture re-sizing and sorting by newest first give me a better browsing experience. These options are accessible if you click on 'quick links' and edit options. Also disabling auto-subscriptions and instant notification got my email load back under control.

Oh cool! Thanks for that info Bill. I wasn't aware you could expand the number of posts per page. Its always annoyed me that on some forums there are only 6-10 posts per page :bash:

At work I have [2] 24" monitors with a screen resolution of 1920 x 1200

At home I use a Dell Laptop which has a 15" screen.

I don't know if 'correctly' is the right term. If they are larger than the size the user specifies, they are resized by the website and they get a frame that says something to the fact of 'click to see the full sized picture'.

This makes the page viewable (no scrolling) but it degrades the picture quality a bit to do this. And if you have a large enough screen / resolution, the default options make it annoying to have to click on every picture to see the full sized image.

Hopefully this will increase the awareness of a few of these options.

Ahh Ha!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Bill, so I removed the zeros and left it blank and now I wouldn't have to scroll regardless.
So, am I correct in saying that any of our wonderful members that have small monitors or resolution that is in disagreement with large pictures should remove those zeros and then when any of us post BIG pictures it will still be visible to them without scrolling? Just making sure I have it right.

The zeros I removed from these boxes here: (print screen below)

That would be right, and then if they wanted to see the full sized picture, they could click on the picture.

Though I would suggest only doing this if you have a small/low resolution display, big pictures are just so much sexier if you have the equipment to display them.

This is most excellent! Thanks to all for the help. So I think I will start using the larger pictures and on the first couple reviews I'll link people to a thread that will show them what to do if they don't want to have to scroll. I actually took a couple larger pictures (for myself, not thinking I could post them) during my last review and I'm happy I'll be able to post them when I finally finish writing it :) Moving forward I can move my picture size on my camera up a tick :) Thanks Bill

Mike - would AG be willing to share the breakdown of monitor sizes for people who visit the website? I see you are using Google Analytics, so this information is available.

Shoot Meghan a PM or call her and discuss as that not my area of control. :)

Now you have me wondering if my beautiful pictures are alienating more people than I was expecting ....

If I have to horizontal scroll I'll tend to click away... sometimes I'll resize pictures just to make a thread readable.

:)

I do 40 posts per page. Sometimes I try to inform members they can view more posts per page using humor. Here's an example of me failing.

well i didnt read through 10 pages of posts, maybe this was brought up already, but trump doesnt believe in global warming...

It's only three pages if you go to "User CP", then "Edit Options", scroll down to "Thread Display Options" and select "Show 40 posts per page". :xyxthumbs:

theres a fault in your logic, the number of posts i have to read still remains the same:P

sorry, i get technical sometimes:P

I think resolution would matter more than monitor size really, right?

Yes.

The size of the screen doesn't matter. It's the resolution. If you have a 55 inch monitor or a 25 inch monitor with the same resolution the 55 will just have a bigger pixel to make up for it
