Mr. Phillips,
I just watched the Meguiar's DA MF system video that is on the website. The system seems very easy to use and seems fairly quick, especially for using a DA. During the video, the one gentleman noted that the finishing wax can be used as a single step system. The overall final clarity of the paint seemed spot on. My question is this: If the finishing wax can be used as a single step polish, what severity of defects can be removed? Or is it mainly good for being a high gloss, jeweling step? I'd really love to see a more in-depth review of the system, especially for the finishing wax. I think the system looks great and when I get the money, I might pull the trigger on the system. Thank you in advance! I apologize if I missed a thread on this in a different section, I did try searching though!

Mike,
I'll go ahead and throw my questions in here to.

Kind of like what is ask above what kind (if any) abrasives are used in the finishing wax?

Also they make it pretty clear that this is to be used on OEM paint. at what point in age does Body shop paint become curred enough to use this system? Or will it almost always be to soft for the MF system use? I'd like to use it on full body painted motorhomes and they do not have hard paint like OEM car manufactures.

Thanks ~~ Yale

I agree the finishing wax needs more media attention. Seems the compound gets all the kudos and the finishing wax is like the ugly sister.

A couple new observations. (Other than I can't spell cured above:dunno:)In the AG store product pages for the Meguiar's MF System there is no separate backing plate so what backing plate are they using? Seems like a person should be able to purchase the backing plate separately for this system if it is a "special" plate?

Also in the video they show a special MF pad brush they say they are including in the system but the "starter" packages don't include a pad brush and none is offered on the product pages either. Where do we find it?

Thanks again!

All great questions guys. I hope someone does a review of this system. I would love to see Mr. Phillips do a review. His stuff just seems well detailed and thought out. I could do a review when I get the kit (most likely september though :|). As for the pad brush question, how is it any different than Foam Pad Conditioning Brush cleans and reconditions foam and wool pads on the buffer. remove excess caked wax and polish from buffing pads. this brush? Is it one that is specially designed for MF or is it Meguiar's version of a pad conditioning brush?

Thanks!

I'm really not sure. in the video on AG's product page they say it's their brush introduced "with the system". So is it any different? I don't know. Guess that's what I'm asking. Does it have a different bristle build than a foam brush? Or is it just a way for Meguiar's to sell more stuff?:dunno:

^Kind of what I was hinting at with the "Meguiar's version" of the brush (no disrespect meant). It very well may be different because of being MF and not foam.

There is no specialized cleaning brush for the MF pads, nor is the Meguiar's version different than the old Edge brush.

Personally I use a denture brush from the grocery store.... same difference and it works fine.

The backing plate can be bought separately - product #W67DA, comes in 5" & 6" sizes. I DK if the AG store sells it but Meg's does.

I just found the backing plate with your help! They make it sound like a special one for the MF system, but it's just their standard one.

I know this question has already been asked but its this product

Meguiars Mirror Glaze G110 DA Polisher 5 inch Backing Plate
Meguiars Mirror Glaze W68DA Dual Action Backing Plate, hook and loop backing plate, orbital backing plate

But just an FYI you don't need that BP if you already own the newer style with shorter Velcro 5"/6" BP from something like LC.

Sorry to resurrect but Shiny Lil Detlr does the denture brush you use pull some of the fibers out on the MF discs? I bought one this weekend past and it worked better than the bug sponge method to fluff up the fibers but saw a few fibers fly when cleaning, like small fluff. Only ran my denture brush against the pad VERY gently, and for about 10 seconds on speed 2 of my kestrel das6 (3200 opm).

Any thoughts would be appreciated. :xyxthumbs:

I can't offer any info since I've only opened the box. I do have a detail this friday though (side dealie). I can try to offer info then. On another note, which pad is which in the system? I'm colorblind and I can't tell the difference between the black and burgundy foam :(

Mike, I can't recall ever seeing the denture brush I use removing fibers after maybe the first time or two of cleaning the pad. Just like a wool pad I find that new MF discs tend to shed a bit, though nowhere near as badly. Once it's broken in you shouldn't be seeing any fibers come off the pad as you clean it.

The thinner pad is the cutting pad, the thicker one is the finishing pad. :xyxthumbs:

Thanks! I looked at them n my face was just kinda :| I'm really excited to try the system this weekend.

Thanks for the input. After my first day of testing with one set of discs (cut and finishing) using the bug sponge I decided to pickup a denture brush, and the next day on the next set of pads it did it for the few panels I tested (cleaning after each panel). Could you possibly post a pic of your denture brush? I think mine might be a really cheap one. The bristles are quite stiff but seem to be flagged at the ends if I look real close.

Thanks again!

does the center of the pad get too matted down for the bug sponge to work effectively for anyone else? I found it the bug sponge to be pretty useless to flush the fibers up. I had to resort to a tooth brush. I want to try the denture brush next time. I also saw some fibers flying off when using the sponge. hopefully it just needs to be broken in like Shiny lil Detlr said.
